Commercial Description:
Bottle; Pasteurised.
Ingredients: Pale, Crystal and Black Malts; Northdown hops.
"Deep reddish amber in colour, with a thick creamy head and delightful hop aroma. On the palate, it is predominantly dry, though the malt character is evident in flavour and body, and it finishes with a long-lasting and pleasant hop bitterness."

Brown sugar, caramel, and leafy, tobacco-like hops permeate the air just above the clear coppery red, tan-headed liquid in my glass. Great flavor too- these English ales seem like the perfect complement to a cigar while flipping through ancient, dusty books in a dark, wood-shelved castle library. With a candle, of course. But I digress...there is plenty of brown sugar and caramel in the flavor, with woody notes, raisins, and leafy, spicy hops. Earthy, a bit chalky, and flavorful. You really can’t go wrong with this beer.

Light brown pour with a somewhat creamy tan head. Aroma is powerful, with malt and a bit of spice/citrus. Primarily malt flavors with notes of smoke, chocolate, fruit with a woodsy backbone. Medium bodied, with a mildly bitter finish and a lingering hop bite at the end. A good one!

Deep bottle brown, amber slightly. Nice cream colored head, nice lacing. Great smelling beer, nice and nutty, malty, some raisin. Good flavor too, a nice coffee bitterness to it, but not that hoppy. Some caramel sweetness as well. This is a really nice English Ale. I would recommend it to others.

Dark orange amber color. Small sized white foamy head. Aroma is malt, wood, caramel, smoke and peat. A medium bodied English ale. Malts are biscuity, peaty and oaky. Hops are understated, slightly spicy and mellow. Nicely balanced. A nice sipping beer, savor the aroma and the subtle flavors slowly. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and sweet. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Boy, I couldn't wait to try this after smelling the big tan head and roasted barley in the nose. Flavor was metalic, skunky and bitter. Bit of caramel and light hop taste. Good for Scotland!!!

Pint bottle, nonick glass. Cookie, caramel, milk chocolate malt (M); flowery hops (L); honey and toffee aromas. Tall, creamy, off-white head is slowly diminishing and crowns a deep amber body. Lightly sweet, lightly bitter flavor becomes a moderately bitter, lightly acidic, astringent finish. The bitter flavor is quite in stark contrast to the sweet, malty nose. Strange. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. The bottom line is: great malty aroma, too bad there’s none of that in the flavor.

Nice reddish brown body with a good glow and a nice buttered bread-colored fluffy head that's not too big but sizeable. Slow to recede and laces nicely. The aroma is cherries and wood. More of the same in the flavor. A little sweet caramel up front, but the finish is shockingly dry. A little tea lingers. The mouthfeel is surprisingly creamy for a 5% beer. Very attractive and tactily pleasant beer, but lacks a bit in the flavor.
