Quite full-bodied in spite of the low alcohol. Very aromatic with a dark and lightly burned character and a nice hoppiness that reaches far into the finish. 010104 kp (8500), Woodstock, Georgia, USA

| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 1/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Apr 22, 2009 Bottle… Pours dark and flat – looks a lot like prune juice. Light molasses, dried plum, burnt caramel and maple syrup in the aroma. Medium-bodied with listless carbonation. Well-balanced flavor, but thin and uninspired. Watered down essences of prune juice and molasses. Finishes diluted and dull. imdownthepub (5173), Banbury, Oxfordshire, England
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Sep 22, 2003 Bottled, Pasteurised. A brown amber beer with a thick creamy head. This is all in the malt, sweet and toffee like, a little over boiled and tinny. A pleasant warming alcohol glow, but is let down by the bottling process. Cornfield (4972), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 24, 2005 Quite a bit different from the small handful of "English Strong Ales" that I’ve had to date, but quite a delightful drink nonetheless. Great look - a clear, dark red body with a creamy tan head. The aroma is a blending of caramel and toffee with a sturdy whiff of smoked peat drifting through. Thick and creamy in the mouth, it delivers a flavor of the sweet malts, slightly smoked, with a solid delivery of earthy hops that remains into the prolonged bitter finish. A masterful piece of brewing.
