Cask at the Nags Head, Reading. Tar in colour with a thin beige head; typical chocolate malt aroma, but also hints of digestive biscuit; flavoursome with sweet and nutty malts; the finish is dry and warming with some light coffee flavour. Excellent.

Cask conditioned handpump Merchants Inn Rugby A black beer with a whitish head and nice lacing. The aroma has some sweet milkiness together with light roast and bitter hops. The taste has more light roasts and decent fruits, but its’ the unexpected hoppiness which sets it apart. A good beer.

Cask, Hinckley 08. Faint roast, cask wood and ruby tints. Distant chew of currant, buttery vanilla, mild-like roasted barley, milky nuttinesss. Creamy with milk chocolate sweetness and not enough roast. Tasty but lacks presence.

Cask, Hinckley Fest 08. Dark brown with a beige head. Aromas are earthy, light roast malts with hints of chocolate. Smoky with some berries and molasses. Flavours are dry and smoky with sweet molasses. Coffee and chocolate with liquorice. Bitter on the finish. Decent.

Cask@1st Hinckley Beer Festival, 2008. Black beer with a milky white head. The aroma is lightly roasted, and the flavour is milky and dry. Overall an average porter.

Cask at the market porter. Aroma is small roasty character, but lots of chocolate and darker fruits. Taste is seriously chocolaty, with the dark fruit adding some tartness, making iv very drinkable.

Cask at the Trafalgar with Mes, 25th April 2008. This is a cracking porter. Pours a dark brown with a persistent cream-colour head. The intriguing aroma of tar, TCP, chocolate malt sets things up and then the smoky, tarry malt flavour delivers the punchline on a balanced, smooth, suprisingly light palate. Very good indeed.

A Mes rate: Gravicask at the Trafalgar.
Dark cloudy mahogany with a very good beige head and good condition. Rich cereal and malt aroma with loads of chocolate. Good tarry chocolate malt flavour with a nice light bitterness giveing it really good balance. Very good porter.
