Commercial Description:
Mouth filling malt characters and a beautiful fruit driven complexity derived from the open fermenters, mix this with a reassuring bitterness from some aromatic hops and we reckon the result is a delightfully scrumptious ale!

Well it seems I liked this a bit more than the fellas below, but I kinda agree with the sentiment; it’s not as exciting as I’d pumped it up in my mind to be. Only having one size of glass is a nice branding exercise but it’s pretty annoying when the beer’s served so cold you really need a pint for it to warm up before you get to the bottom of the glass. The LC Dining Hall had similar crazy glass size/price issues when they opened too - what’s going on at LWB?? Anyway there’s subtle new world hoppiness and slight carameliness, appreciable grainy dryness and fairly decent bitterness for a beer of its ilk. Mouthfeel seems a little bit hard. Very much a Little Creatures beer - in both malt and fermentation character. Like voota I’m not really sure what the open fermentation adds, it tastes squeaky clean. The fact that the fermenting vessel are tall cylindroconicals is kind of a giveaway that it’s 95% gimmick. Regardless, it’s quite an enjoyable beer, with none of the weirdness you get with most new micros.

330mL bottle. Slight choc/malt aroma. Pours cloudy Reddish/Brown with small off-white head. Mildly bitter with a slight sour finish. Needed more oomph for mine though!.

Bottle. Lovely-looking beer - colour of leatherwood honey, dense, creamy beige head. Good lacing. There’s honeyed malt on the nose too as well as citrus, flowers and spice. Taste is mild coffee malt, some earthiness and nuts. Gentle but lingering bitterness at the finish. I was underwhelmed the first time I tried it, but no, this is subtle and good. There’s no hint of open ferment wild funkiness though.

Tried on tap at Little Creatures also at White Rabbit Brewery and the Tas Beerfest 09. Clear, bright brown body short but nearly lasting head. Brussels lace. Malts on the nose as well as some spice which varied from place to place. Hints of dry dark chocolate in the taste, some caramel late, a hint of crystal with a fairly dry finish. Excellent drinkability.

Tap. Poured a clear brwon with fizzy head. Muted nose of sweet malt. In the mouth it ewas smooth and sweet. A slight hop bite on the tail. Decent but not distinctive.

Nice brown look and brown ale aromas. Sweet and nutty (maybe could be drier). Nice drop.

Draught at Australian Beer Festival, Sydney. They had this at the Little Creatures stand at the show, glad I tried it! Deep amber body with offwhite head. Aroma is a nice combination of fruity, citrusy hops and rich toffee. Quite thick texture and full bodied, carries the flavours very well. Flavours of burnt toffee and mild roast chocolate malts mixed in with grapefruit and pine spice hops. Finishes with a reassuring bitterness. Damn tasty, can’t help but think Little Creatures Dark, but that’s probably just because they were at the same booth.
