islay (470), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA May 28, 2008 Small sample at OSLO and Guerde’s tasting on Friday, 5-23-08. Yellow color. Nice, fruity, honeyish aroma. I definitely tasted the maple and really enjoyed this mead. badgerben (3584), Blaine, Minnesota, USA May 26, 2008 OSLO and Guerde’s Memorial Weekend Tasting, 5/23/08. Another big thanks to Skyview for helping me kill off all of White Winter’s meads! Light yellow color. Very faint honey aroma with some woodiness. I was wondering if there really was any maple syrup in this, until I tasted it. Strong maple flavor. Very sweet, almost cloying. A bit of clover honey. Nicely done. JPDIPSO (4862), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA Apr 7, 2008 Bright still straw colored liquid. No legs. Light apple and honeysuckle with a touch of boiled pasta in the aroma. Very simple aromas with nothing very inviting or bold. Light and smooth on the palate. Sweet apple honey with a touch of maple sap, complete with a touch of wood. Simple sweet elixir. A decent dessert mead. BDR (2139), Roseville, Minnesota, USA Dec 14, 2007 ABR. Honey naturally on the aroma and body. Sweet mouthfeel. Barely there maple flavor. tennisjoel (931), Shakopee, Minnesota, USA Oct 11, 2007 Autumn Brew Review ’07
This would be my first rated Mead, although I recall sampling a Mead at RBSG this year, and didn’t rate it because my palate was shot. What I get out of this mead is honey, subtle maple, bark. Very solid and relatively easy drinking mead. JK (2944), Richfield, Minnesota, USA Oct 1, 2007 At the 2007 ABR. Very light maple, barely perceptible. I wasn’t very excited about this but they did a good job. Sweet honey aroma. Lots of carbonation on this mead. Just a touch of barnyard, country character. Quite sweet. OSLO (825), Perth, Australia Sep 30, 2007 [Draft, ABR ’07] Pours golden. The aroma is apple, honey, a little maple syrup--very sweet. Medium mouthfeel. Didn’t like it quite as much as the blueberry, but still was quite nice. Skyview (3992), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Sep 30, 2007 Sampled at the 2007 Autumn Brew Review in Minneapolis, MN. Pours a clear, very light reddish brown wine liquid that has some syrupy texture to it. Aroma of sweet honey with a slight burnt brown sugar and maple syrup. The honey is more prominent than the maple syrup. Taste is smooth, a little syrupy with a good balance of maple syrup and honey mead. Finish is sweet with more of a honey flavor than the maple syrup. Another fine mead from White Winter for the autumn season.
