If you want to know what a dry mead should taste like, try this one. Some people don’t like dry, and won’t like it. It is to style, and is a fantastic beverage. I give this third place in meads from White Winter.

ABR 2008. Light aroma of honey with a bit of wood in there as well. Sweet, finishes very dry. Alcohol seemed stronger in this than in the others from White Winter I tried.

Sampled at the White Winter Winery. Nice dry mead nose on this pale yellow pour. Dry flavor but still a little too sweet for a dry mead in my book. A good product nonetheless.

During May ’07 brewpub tour, stopped at the winery in Iron River, WI. Pours a clear, light yellow chardonnay wine color. Aroma of dry grass, some sour pineapple, earth and light honey. Taste is sweet honey at first and then finishes very dry. A slight tart apple aftertaste. Did not pick any citrus but an excellenet dry mead.

Sampled at Peoria Int’l Beer Festival. Very clear - it looks exactly like water, except for the littlest tinge of yellow. Green apple and clover aroma. Rather tart, with green apple flavor most prevalent. Definitely wine-like, but still very good.

Sample at the meadery, late July 2006, from a White Winter glass. Nearly clear faint gold with nice legs in the glass....dry, grassy/floral honey aroma, hints of vanilla and wood....dry and acidic body, rather thin and white-wine-like in body/texture, fruitiness quite restrained, touches of apple and citrus....not one of the best from this company but certainly more than passable.

Bottle via a trade from the man, the myth, the legend, tytoanderso...as an extra along with 3 other White Winter EXTRAS! (BEER KARMA to him!). Pours nearly as clear as water, with some legs. Aroma is straight forward with honey, some freshly cut grass, sage brush, light citrus, and desert flora and dryness. Nice spiciness to the honey. Taste is very dry but near watery with alcohol, mint water and dry wine. Odd trade duality of alcohol flavor and thin body. Strange, and I am not sure quite how they accomplished that (along with the water like hue). A few too many wine tannins (added after, not from oak). Very dry in residual sugars and finish. Would be interested in talking to the brewer about their process in making this.

LIght yellow hue in a clear liquid. Hints of flowers in a clover field aroma. Some sharpness of a green apple detected. Mild honey sweetness quickly escorted away by a dry tart apple flavor. Fairly thick for the dryness. A hint of citrus, but more a grapefruit pith type of essence. Dry an clear honey linger. Get a touch perfumy at time, but a decent dry mead.
