Ungstrup (14723), Frederiksberg, Denmark Oct 3, 2009 Bottled. A golden beer with a white head. The aroma has notes of hops and spices - among them ginger. The flavor is sweet with notes of cardboard on a lightly malty back ground, leading to a dry finish where the cardboard note lingers. Thanks KimJohansen for sharing. Enjoyit (1695), Vadum, Denmark Jul 23, 2009 Clear yellow of color with a white head. An aroma of hops, weak malt and dry notes. A flavor of malt, bread and bitter notes. mabel (2530), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 13, 2009 [2182-20090520] 500ml bottle. Not much aroma, some toasted straw? Slightly hazy, big medium-lasting foamy white head and a deluge of bubbles throughout. Wheat and straw and some toasted yeast flavour with a tart aftertaste. Medium body. Average, interesting to try.
(@ Bierhaus; Cork, Ireland; w/ jerc) jerc (3861), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 29, 2009 2009-05-20. Dark yellow body with a good sized foamy white head and great lacing (3+). Flavour has a sweet pale malt base but has a lot of floral hops to it, pleasant bitterness grows a bit as you go, lingering floral hops. (6+) Hoppy aroma is very floral, noble hops. (6+) Average plus palate is very good for a lager. (3+) Pretty decent lager, but I am not partial to the hop profile. After a night in the frig and a hard day at work I treated myself to the single 500ml bottle of Belfast Lager. I’m a simple drinker of beer, i.e. not a ’taster.’ That said, the first few swallows had a mildly bitter edge. However, that was simply palate prep for a very enjoyable beer. The 4th sip on was wonderful and exactly how the brewer must have meant it to be. jspruit (111), Dublin, Ireland Apr 19, 2009 Bought this 500mL bottle in Northern Ireland on a trip to Belfast and enjoyed it back home in Dublin.
Pours a nice yellow straw color-light to let the light through with a tiny little white bubbly head that disappears quite quick.
Smells great, much more aroma then you would expect from a lager. Some grass and hoppy notes with a tad of citrus.
The hops is great in this lager and is the overwhelming factor. Slightly bitter with some light floral hints too-tastes great.
Finishes slightly dry with a bit of bite to the hops and a little unbalanced, but overall is nice.
I was quite impressed by this overall and quite happy-I haven’t tasted an Irish beer like this before. I’d like to see more of this around and hope that it all tastes like this! Bransmark (1), Århus C, Denmark does not count Apr 10, 2009 Tasted at Bull & Castle in Dublin. Bottle.
Refreshingly hoppy scent. Soft and pleasant taste with a good hoppy bitterness. Nice one.
