Wulfstan (481), California, USA May 22, 2008 Updated: Jun 13, 2008 This is ok and interestingly spicy, but ifor the longer term it’s rather sharp the interest fades fast while the finish is so fast it’s almost not even there.
It’s darkish, murky red brown with bits in it. The head is fairly big, light tan that soon thins to 1/4 inch head that shrinks to a dense ring. The aroma is cloves, port, alcohol, brown bread, and stewed pears. The taste is very peppery, spicy, super-fortified port, with a strong zestiness, pears, making it interesting at first but this gets tiresome soon. It’s fizzy. The finish is short, ending abruptly and leaving no real afetrtaste except a brief, light peppery bitterness that quickly vanishes as well.
BückDich (4558), Boise, Idaho, USA Oct 4, 2008 Bottle: Pours an amber tawny color with an average head. The nose is yeast and floral with a nice yeasty belgian character, critrusy with an up front earthy hop note. The flavor is spicy with yeast and a sweet malty note, ample grassiness in the finish and a bit too much esters and sweetness. Impaired drinkability and a lingering finish. jrob_21 (883), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Oct 3, 2008 Nice yeasty belgian ale. Pours a nice brown color. Bottle back from bruisin’ ales but now it looks like I can get this in GA. Very interesting caramel an dprune aroma. Flavor is yeast, a little bit of spice, and some purple fruit as well. BigMilly8 (373), Holiday, Florida, USA Oct 3, 2008 From bottle : Pours a hazy cabonated caramel color, with a fizzy tan head that dies out quickly. Very nice aroma, lots of fruit and raisins, peach, malt. Taste isnt quite as yummy as the smell, but pretty good, pretty carbonated as well. Sticky feel in the mouth and medium body. Cant taste hardly any of the alcohol. Aftertaste isnt very desirable. Not to bad though. tronraner (1431), Maryville, Tennessee, USA Oct 2, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Pours mahogany orange-brown with respectable beige head. The aroma is lots of fruity esters-apricot, kumquat, peach, lime- with some lavender, leather, and raisin. The flavor is leather, dried apricots, raisin, and tannin. There’s a mellow, semi-sweet chocolate note to the finish, as well as a bit of herbal bitterness. Pretty good. Snojerk321 (1008), San Diego, California, USA Oct 2, 2008 12oz bottle. Pours a dark mahogany color with a 2 finger beige head that dissipated quickly. Sweet malt and caramel on the nose, flavor was very Barley Wine esk but lighter in body....better than I was expecting.
