Commercial Description:
Brewed for Whole Foods. Old Plowshare is a full-flavored Celtic style Stout. Smooth and firm-bodied with the bold flavor notes of dark roasted malts. Because Old Plowshare is organic it remains true to the time-honored Irish tradition of respect for natural ingredients. A great pub classic or the perfect Black and Tan.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is roasted malt and sweet caramel. Medium body. Flavor is primarily roasted/smoked malt. Not much hop presence. Not a bad organic stout.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with tan off white head quickly disipating to no head. Scent is sweet malt, chocolate. Small hop character. Thin and slightly oily. Sessionable with little flavor in this organic stout.

Bottle, courtesy of Brandon Orr. Very dark, as expected, with a foamy take. Licorice aroma. Tart with a bitter chocolate bite, tightly sweet. A bit odd, but drinkable. (#3447, 5/3/2008)

Charcoal and currant nose with mild cocoa notes. Dark brown with a thin tan head. Moderately intense flavor of sour currants and parsley. Bark and parsley finish. Good strength and balance.

black with a fizzy looking head ... malt aroma with some cardboard and coffee .... nice roasted coffee taste ... good coffee ground bitter ... thin mouthfeel ... some paste in the aftertaste .... slightly fizzy feel .... very drinkable and not the least bit offensive ... good solid middle of the road stout

Beer pours dark brown, clear with a one finger head and little lacing. Deep aroma of sweet roast, chocolate and milk. The flavor was like drinking a malted milkshake with a touch of roast. Lots of lactic flavors, which isn’t a big favorite of mine. Nice creamy mouthfeel. Not bad.

Small but balanced. Dark but not opaque, nose of coffee and burned malts. Small head but adequate lacing. Taste of malts and bitter coffee, but without the hoppy bitterness of a Bell’s Expedition or a Victory Storm King. Average mouthfeel, consistent with its appearance. Bonus for drinkable, low alcohol beer.
