Commercial Description:
Brewed for Whole Foods. Old Plowshare is a full-flavored Celtic style Stout. Smooth and firm-bodied with the bold flavor notes of dark roasted malts. Because Old Plowshare is organic it remains true to the time-honored Irish tradition of respect for natural ingredients. A great pub classic or the perfect Black and Tan.

Pours dark brown with reddish highlights and a tight, pillowy, beige head that deposits creamy lace in its wake. Chocolate and roasted malt are on the nose with a touch of spicy hops hiding in the background. Medium-bodied and soft, the mouthfeel is oily-slick with a roasted, lightly bitter finish. Dark roasted malt, ash & chocolate malt combine into a failry tasty beer. It almost seems like a blend of a robust porter and a dry stout. Regardless of what you call it, it is one of those beers which comes together in a way that the sum is greater than its parts; a solid, quaffable stout.

Suprising amber appearance for this stout. Medium bodied with a nice chocolate malt accented backbone. Moderate to heavy roasted essence with a good hop presence in a milky, think chocolate milk, stout body.

The 12 ounce bottle poured a clear, deep ruby red colored beverage with a modest sized frothy tan head that was mostly lasting leaving good lacing on the glass. The aroma had a strong presence of cherries and dates with notes of coffee and caramel. The body was a bit thinner than I would have liked it with average carbonation and a watery texture. The flavor started out a bit sweet (for a dry stout) and then became unpleasantly bitter.

Bottle: pours a darkish brown with a thin tan head that quickly disappears, aroma has a touch of chocolate and malt, taste is malty with a thinish mouthfeel. This isn’t too bad but there is nothing special about this that would make me want to buy it again.

Pours a dark cola with a reddish tint and a medium sized beige head. Aroma of roasted malt and coffee beans. Taste of roasted malt and coffee beans as well. A nice and simple stout.

Opaque black with a half-inch tan head. Roasted malt aroma; roasted malt and coffee flavors. Thin mouthfeel and body. Kind of generic feeling, but not bad.
