Commercial Description:
Brewed for Whole Foods. Old Plowshare is a full-flavored Celtic style Stout. Smooth and firm-bodied with the bold flavor notes of dark roasted malts. Because Old Plowshare is organic it remains true to the time-honored Irish tradition of respect for natural ingredients. A great pub classic or the perfect Black and Tan.

purchased at 99 bottles in federal way, washington. pour is thin looking, dark brown with small beige head that leaves rapidly, not much lacing. smell is faint, cocoa, roasted nuts, weak coffee. taste is fizzy feeling, bakers chocolate, slight vanilla, some nuts, some coffee, sour aftertaste. overall this beer would probably be much better without the ’organic malts’, is it just me or are most organic swills crap? so this is what beer is going to taste after we are all forced to fight global warming.

Great organic stout. It leaves the palate feeling refreshed. Has a hint of coffee and a heavy malt to it. The organic taste comes through as it settles on your mouth.

12-oz. Black with a thick moussy tan head. Fairly light nose of semi-sweet baking chocolate, but even that is dusty and subdued. Body’s a little on the low side of medium, with active carb. There’s a big bold roasty note about halfway through the mid-palate, that falls into a lightly spicy and peppery finish. It’s simple, maybe a bit too much so, and very direct, but it showcases well the benefit of choosing one nice bold note to emphasize and leaving everything else around just to stabilize it. Still, I can see why they put it out for private label rather than bragging about it too much by putting their own name on it--’cause it’s pretty darn good, but not really great.

Pours a dark brown with light tan head. Chocolate, roasted coffee, a bit of light fruit, slightly sweet, slightly bitter. Pretty well balanced, and tastes good for an organic.

nice aroma on this fine stout with a grape and cherry sense to it. deep dark it gives off red unto the light. light coffee that is roasted and lightly sweet. a little light on the body but fair to the palate. best organic i ever had.

Dark brown with a nice light cocoa note. This goes into a mid weighted body that shows a little more malt within the finish.

This beer pours a deep deep brown almost black with a small tan head head leaving some good lacing down the sides. the aromas are roasted chocolate, coffee and slight hops and the flavors verify this as well! It does not have that much complexity to it, but it is quite drinkable. This is a nice beer. Cheers!
