Commercial Description:
Brewed for Whole Foods. Old Plowshare is a full-flavored Celtic style Stout. Smooth and firm-bodied with the bold flavor notes of dark roasted malts. Because Old Plowshare is organic it remains true to the time-honored Irish tradition of respect for natural ingredients. A great pub classic or the perfect Black and Tan.

(Bottle) Pours a mahogany body with a moderate off-white head. Aroma of milk chocolate malt balls, lactose, caramel, and nuts. Flavor of roasted malt, coffee, and chocolate with a dry, somewhat bitter finish.

12 oz bottle; cellared about a year. Deep clear burgundy with a foamy oatmeal head. Nice nose of brown sugar, cinnamon, grapes and dark chocolate. Brief crab, mild lemon-lime bite, and coffee are knit together with licorice malts. Simple but soild stout.

Bottle poured a clear dark brown with a small lingering amber head. Aromas of coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malt and a hint of vanilla. Palate was medium bodied and crisp. Flavors of coffee, roasted malt and bitter chocolate with a lingering bitter finish.

black with ruby edges, whispy head, slightly sour roasted malt aroma, big body, rich roasted malt flavor, very dry, long bitter finish with a bit of astrengent burnt malt bitterness that ruins what would othwrwise be a nice rich stout, specially brewed with organic malt for Whole Foods 25th anniversary

Dark cola-brown to black in color. Small, light tan head that settles to a thin film. Virtually no lacing noted. The aroma shows big-time roasted barley, with chocolate, coffee, and oatmeal. The flavor also shows huge roastiness up front, with coffee and chocolate providing complimentary bitter and sweet flavors. The oatmeal adds a pleasant smoothness to the flavor. Medium body that shows fizzy carbonation on the tongue. The lengthy finish is dry and roasty. Nicely crafted beer.

Nice robust smell of roasted malt, chocolate, caramel and molasses. Poured a cola color with a nice foamy tan head that quickly receded to a nice foamy cap. Nice lacing. Flavor is robust roasted malt, milk chocolate, burnt malt, dark chocolate and rich coffee. Body is medium, texture is slightly creamy then slightly sticky, with medium carbonation, a quick dry very light bitter finish. A very nice stout by whole foods. I will definitely buy again. Served in a Pint.

Aroma of coffee initially a bit weak but becomes more robust as it warms. Really nice clear, dark red color with a sizable but quickly-diminishing tan head. Decent carbonization in the mouthfeel. Flavor mainly coffee with just a hint of bitter chocolate in the aftertaste. A slightly better than average stout.

Bought at regular bottle store. Nothing to do with Whole Foods. Almost black color. Modest head. Medium body. Lots of roasted malt flavor without some stout’s sweetness.
