Commercial Description:
Brewed for Whole Foods. Old Plowshare is a full-flavored Celtic style Stout. Smooth and firm-bodied with the bold flavor notes of dark roasted malts. Because Old Plowshare is organic it remains true to the time-honored Irish tradition of respect for natural ingredients. A great pub classic or the perfect Black and Tan.

Good dry stout. Aroma was mainly roasted malt and coffee. Flavor was roasted coffee with hints of nuts and hops. Finish is dry and moderately bitter. Mouthfeel was a bit on the thin side.

Pours a very dark brown, almost black, color with dark ruby edges and a huge foamy tan head that settles into a lasting lacing. Very roasty malt aroma with hints of oatmeal, nuts, chocolate and a feint sweet coffee presence. Bitter and hoppy up front with a nice roasted maltiness, oatmeal, crisp hazelnut and a dry bitter finish.

12oz. bottle. Aroma on the stale side but did get a decent wiff of Oats on the finish. Black body with tan head man hole cover head on top of body thoughout beer. Good oatmeal and coffee flavor for an oranic brew. Dry coffee roast lingers on the palate. Decnent brew.

Bottle... Poured black with a billowy, tan head. Roasted aroma of almonds and sugary malts. On the lighter side, a nice creamy lactic yeast flavor with roasted malts and mild hop balance. Chocolately, cookie flavor meshed with a smoked, charcoal coffee note in the finish.

Bottle Pours a dark brown with a lasting tan head. The head is creamy and laces nicely. Has a good aroma of chocolate, coffee, roast, and some fruits. Has a good carbonation. The blend is good. Has a good flavor. Not super stouty more porterlike. But still decent. Has a watery texture. A medium body. The finish is okay with a decent aftertaste. Not a bad beer.

Thanks to bu11zeye for sending this my way as a bonus. It’s a decent stout but I didn’t find it that impressive in the end. It’s kind of a disappointment coming from North Coast but maybe I just don’t like pure organic beers.

Aroma / Appearance - The semi-transparent body trickles around the glass leaving a light ashy head. Blackberries, cold ash, and buttered scones form a bland mixture of flat scents.

Flavor / Palate - Smoky, fruity, and delicate it hits the tongue, sprints across the palate, and is down the throat with barely a trace left behind. Plain and dull the most interesting aspect is a weak chocolately aftertaste. It’s not that it is flawed or has any negatives; it is just lacking in anything to make it worthwhile.

A descent stout. It’s different because it’s organic. If that matters to you, great. Otherwise, it’s fairly average.

Pours a very dark brown with a medium sized tan head with good persistence. Roasty nose. Coffee like taste and finish.
