sheatripper (863), Brooklyn, New York, USA Jul 24, 2007 Bottle. Poured a translucent brown with a foamy beige head. Aromas of hershey syrup, grain, and slightly burnt brown sugar and caramel. Flavor sweet and slightly tart-- notes of dark toasted grainy bread, some old coffee, with light molasses. Mild roasty bitterness at the end. A bit thin tasting, though my palate for dry stout has probably been ruined by impys. Not terrible, but there are better choices. fiulijn (7150), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy Jun 26, 2007 Dark amber to brown color. Aroma of mild coffee. Dry mouthfeel, with a combination of caramel and roasted malt. Quite strong bitterness; in the end there is still a lot of caramel and roasted malt. cbeers21 (563), Miami, Florida, USA Jun 26, 2007 Pours ebony thickness into the glass with a light head. Deep roasted chocolatey malts on the nose, almost milky. A robust toasted malt/chocolate flavor bleeds itself over the palate with hints of vanilla, and caramel. A smokey tang lingers in the back of the throat. The body is milky, with a chewy quality towards the finish. A burnt, lip-licking stout which is a pleasure to drink. Zinister (1198), Houston, Texas, USA Jun 23, 2007 Damn nice beer. Dark and chocolate. Good choclate malt aroma with nice carmel wiffs. Strong roasty flavors with some chocolate. Nice creamy mouth feel and not overly bitter. PhillyBeer2112 (2084), Orange Park, Florida, USA Jun 22, 2007 Distinct milk chocolate aroma, with milder caramel notes. Dark garnet color, not opaque! Tan clumpy head. Chocolate flavors. Dry. Fairly light even for a dry stout. bhensonb (4182), Woodland, California, USA Jun 20, 2007 Chocolately, malty aroma. Creamy in a way. Nearly opaque dark brown color with a significant light tan head that certainly sticks to the glass, though it seems unwilling to break into lace. Seems a bit thin bodied. Kind of chocolate malts, with a light undertone of dark roasted malt. The carbonation is very moderate, the feel is near creamy, and there is a decent amount of bitter, especially in the finish. Dry finish. Quite good. jah noth (1015), Rochester, New York, USA Jun 16, 2007 Deep roasted coffee aroma ith mild lactic. Crimson brown pour with minimal head. Decent roasted flavor, some sweet sugar and butterscotch. Relatively thin. I think I like the Old 38 better. ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA Jun 10, 2007 ’Light’ black pour with a moderate head, decent lacing and retention. Aroma is heavy on roast with lesser notes of caramel. Somewhat bittersweet finish. Lacks complexity to keep me interested.
