Commercial Description:
Brewed for Whole Foods. Old Plowshare is a full-flavored Celtic style Stout. Smooth and firm-bodied with the bold flavor notes of dark roasted malts. Because Old Plowshare is organic it remains true to the time-honored Irish tradition of respect for natural ingredients. A great pub classic or the perfect Black and Tan.

Bottle. The beer pours to a really dark garnet body with a thin tan head that mostly dissipates rather quickly. The aroma is chocolate with some coffee and sweetened condensed milk. The flavor is dry charcoal with chocolate and light coffee and hints of licorice. This is your typical dry stout. A dry roasted palate with a decent medium mouthfeel. Lightly tart.

Poured a stiff and thick deep black with a very thick, foamy, lacing tan head. Chocolate aroma, malty nose. Very solid flavor, roasted malts, nuts, chocolate, grainy. Smooth finish brings the coffee and nutty flavors. I enjoyed this beer and could probably drink alot of it.

Quite thin and watery for a stout. For some reason most "organic" beers taste subdued and bland to me.

A nice smooth full bodied brew. Has wonderful toasted oat flavor with a smooth coffee aftertaste. Aroma is nice, but not too powerful. Little head, dark brown body. Not the stoutest of stouts, but pretty good.

Beware! I don’t know if all cases are like the one I bought from Fairway (NY), but I had two bottles, each on a different night, and BOTH made me strongly nauseous. I won’t even bother to comment on the flavors -- who cares when it feels like it’s about to come back up??

Dark brown with a hint of mahogany on the edges. Moderate taupe head with some decent lacing. Perhaps a little light in color, but a nice looking brew. Dark caramel aromas, with a light whiff of peanut oil. Some mild chocolate and a hint of licorice. Aromas seem to cross between a mild, a heavy amber, and perhaps a stout. Quite acidic from the start, with black malt and dark coffee. A touch of sweetness in the finish and a rather dry linger, that has a mild orange citric kick. Drinkable, with only a slight aroma fault (as least for me).

A very solid stout. Aroma is a little lacking and boring, coffee, roast, fleeting mint, oats, but the flavor has a refined dryness and fine sandpaper roast that is very pleasant. Oats are noticable, as is a slight bitterness.
