Commercial Description:
Brewed for Whole Foods. Old Plowshare is a full-flavored Celtic style Stout. Smooth and firm-bodied with the bold flavor notes of dark roasted malts. Because Old Plowshare is organic it remains true to the time-honored Irish tradition of respect for natural ingredients. A great pub classic or the perfect Black and Tan.

Decent looking beer. Very dark, with a SLIGHT off-white head. For a dry stout this actually looks pretty good. Nice thin head sitting on top. The head eventually fades away, but still it looks great. Slight viscous pour .Very nice roast aroma. Not really getting much out of the aroma except the roast, but again, the roast aroma is fantastic. SLIGHT chocolate aroma comes through as it warms, but never fully develops. Bit on the carbonated side. Not that very silky smooth porter/stout palate I love. Gets in the way of appreciating that fairly good roast flavor. That roast flavor stays on your tastebuds for quite some time. Dry finish, as others have noted. Pretty good beer, but damn that carbonation is annoying.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, and some chocolate. Flavor of very smooth roasted malts with a coffee like finish. Pretty good.

Pours a dark brown color with a tan head. Nice roasted malt aroma with chocolate, coffee, and some molasses. Flavor is also strong on the roasted malts right away with a decent slightly bitter and dry finish. A little suprised with this one.

Pours a three finger light brown head that fades quickly leaving some lace. Totally black color, no highlights. Light carbonation and medium bodied. Coffee nose. Flavor is nearly sweet coffee, with a burnt coffee finish. $2.50 for a 12oz bottle from Beverage Warehouse Winooski, VT.

Bottle. Beige foamy decently lasting head over a black body. Nice lacing. Aroma is roasted malts, light toffee. A bit weak on the aroma. Taste was coffee, little else. Somewhat creamy mouthfeel.

Bottle. Pours with a small, tan head over a dark brown body. Aroma of coffee grounds and rich chocolate. Taste is coffee, slightly metallic notes, and quite watery overall. Thinnish mouthfeel, lively bubbles.

Darkest brown with a big fluffy tan head. Nice retention and decent lacing. Aromas of cocoa powder, graham, brownie mix, iced coffee. Flavor is mainly chocolate malts. Lightly acidic and roasty. Not as sweet as the aroma, but there’s a dusting of cocoa and dark chocolate. Sort of light bodied with sharp carbonation. A very solid stout.

Pours dark brown w/ tan head. Roasty and nutty aroma. Flavor is roasted malt, nuts, and light coffee. Light bodied, not heavy, somewhat watery. Light hop finish. Just an ok stout.
