Commercial Description:
Brewed for Whole Foods. Old Plowshare is a full-flavored Celtic style Stout. Smooth and firm-bodied with the bold flavor notes of dark roasted malts. Because Old Plowshare is organic it remains true to the time-honored Irish tradition of respect for natural ingredients. A great pub classic or the perfect Black and Tan.

Bottle. Mocha, dusty brown sugar nose with lots of roasted malt and some swinging burnt coffee notes. Deep ruby-mahogany with a creamy tan head. Dry and lightly ashy taste with slight flittering malt sweetness. There’s a certain lightness about it, as if some stale air from the yeast under the char, light bitterness and inconsistent carbonation with a plummy end as the stout struggles to unify. Straightaway, by-the-numbers.

Pours a dark brown with an off-white and loosely-bubbled head. Aroma is sweet and not too conspicuous. Tastes very sweet indeed, nothing like a dry stout and verging on porter in terms of the lack of roasted notes. Body is thin and watery with a touch of creaminess and a fine carbonation. This was a bit of a let-down.

12 oz bottle. Pours a dark, almost black color with a thick tan head. Aroma is roasted malts, chocolate, and a touch of coffee. Flavor is quite pleasant, with a nice creamy chocolate, coffee, and roasted flavor. Definitely one to check out again.

12 oz bottle...pours dark brown with a small tan head...very little retention, but it does provide some sudsy lacing. Nice nose of dark roasted malts, cocoa, chocolate, and bitter coffee. The flavor was along the same lines with an emphasis on the bitter coffee. The palate was very dry, and quite bitter. Solid session stout...

This beer poured a very attractive and inviting dark color that was almost black with a generous tan head that dissipated slowly. The aroma was of sweet roasted malt and coffee. Taste is the same with some milk chocolate flavor as well. The mouthfeel was very pleasant. This is a realy great session stout and one I am looking forward to having again.

Nearly Black with ruby/brown accents. Average head. Aroma has some cocoa and dark malt flavors and it is slightly biscuity. Taste is of roasted malts and some cocoa. A little weird in the after taste.

12 oz bottle. Poured a very dark brown, with amber highlights near the glass edge. A light tan foam that gave decent cling but remained thin after pouring. Aroma is chocolate. A nice hoppy bitter taste with the chocolate aftertones and malt. The mouthfeel ls a little watery. Not very complex.

Pours ebony/mahogany into a shaker. Oatmeal conglomerate head with good retention leaves spotted sheets as it recedes. Sour pit fruits, citrus and dusty chocolate aromas. Sharp and sour upfront changing to espresso and chocolate in the middle to the lasting roasty bitter chocolate finish.
