Commercial Description:
Brewed for Whole Foods. Old Plowshare is a full-flavored Celtic style Stout. Smooth and firm-bodied with the bold flavor notes of dark roasted malts. Because Old Plowshare is organic it remains true to the time-honored Irish tradition of respect for natural ingredients. A great pub classic or the perfect Black and Tan.

Split bottle with Butters. Pours a tan head with a dark brown body. Nice lacing. Smells roasted and tastes that way too. Slight hint of bitterness and I swear I taste strawberries.

Bottle shared with Barrios at work. Pours a nice dark brown with chestnut highlights and fair dark tan head. Aroma is sweet light roast with a light cherry note. Tart dry roastiness on the flavor, but still a hint of cherry and maybe other fruits. Medium body with a good bit of carbonation but not in a biting way. Quite decent actually, and I don’t typically care for dry stouts.

Pretty nice beer. Brought this back with me from Miami Beach this past summer and it suffered not. Me either. Four of us sampling and agreeing it’s pretty good. Good head and lace; lovely dark rich brown with dark cherry highlights. Vanilla, chocolate and dark malt aroma. Flavor’s about the same. Fine carbonation. Good quaff. Satisfying. Session beer. Great finish.

Bottle from Doboy. Clear, dark brown with ruby highlights under a medium tan head. Aroma has the requisite coffee and chocolate, albeit in a rather small dose. Medium body and carbonation, but jsut feels a littel thin. Some smoky sweet malt, dried out by the roasted malt bitterness and some subdued spicy hops. Rather understated and not a very remarkable.

Pours nice jet black with a tan head. Sweet roasted malt aroma, strong milk chocolate and some coffee. Strong chocolate and lactose flavor, medium body, sweet and dry. Good but not great stout.

12oz bottle from Swann Avenue Market (Tampa, FL). POurs a brown to black with thin tan head. Aroma is malty and earthy with notes of chocolate and coffee. Some slight smokiness as well. Flavor is primarily roasted malt and coffee with notes of barnyard, vanilla and toffee. Generally medium to full body with a slightly sweet, slightly bitter finish.

Winter Welcom Toronto. Sweet aroma of sugared coffee, malt and dark chocolate, darkest brown, ruby at the edges, small toffee head. Taste is a sweet toasted malt, chicory, burnt toast. Medium bodied, very well balanced, sweet, dry and bitter all at once. Terrific. Thanks Radek Kliber.
