Commercial Description:
Brewed for Whole Foods. Old Plowshare is a full-flavored Celtic style Stout. Smooth and firm-bodied with the bold flavor notes of dark roasted malts. Because Old Plowshare is organic it remains true to the time-honored Irish tradition of respect for natural ingredients. A great pub classic or the perfect Black and Tan.

Bottle. A dark brown color with a diminished tan head. A slightly sour aroma with salt, roasted malts, and a touch of chocolate. A malty, slightly burnt, coffee and nut flavor.

Bottle. Mocha, dusty brown sugar nose with lots of roasted malt and some swinging burnt coffee notes. Deep ruby-mahogany with a creamy tan head. Dry and lightly ashy taste with slight flittering malt sweetness. There’s a certain lightness about it, as if some stale air from the yeast under the char, light bitterness and inconsistent carbonation with a plummy end as the stout struggles to unify. Straightaway, by-the-numbers.

Mildly roasted malt aroma and scant else. A sorta dark brown/black with some amber tinting and a bubbly, diminishing, thumb thick tan head. Flavor has a bit of a cola/tobacco tinge int he fore followed by some brown sugar and tea-like sweetness. I seriously get hints of chamomille as well. Kinda Reminds me of Sleepy Time Tea-Stout! It’s different and pleasant.

Deep red translucent body, thin light tan head. Toasty, roasted malt aroma with hints of coffee and chocolate. Sweeter than most dry stouts with a nice chocolate character balanced by bitter, slightly prickly roasted malts. A competent better-than-average interpretation of this classic but somewhat hackneyed style. Thanks Walt!

(bottle - 12 oz) Dark brown with red highlights and a nice and puffy tan head. Aroma is very rich and roasty with some nice mocha notes underneath. Roasted chocolate malts dominate the beginning of the taste with a nice roasted and toasted middle and a bittersweet chocolate and coffee finish. A very nice and easy drinking stout.

Dark beer that shines with mahogany colors when held against the light. Big, rocky beige head. Lots of dusty chocolate in the nose, with plenty of fresh cereal grains and malted milk balls. Flavors of coffee, dusty chocolate, malted milk balls, and an almost berry fruitiness under it all. Interesting flavors, but not my favorite stout.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown body with a ruby tinges around the edges when held up to the light...also a medium-sized frothy tan head. The aroma is quite nice at first whiff - plenty of dry bitter coffee amidst oats and milk chocolate. The body seems fairly light and fluffy at first but then it kind of turns around...big bitter coffee roastiness up front leading into bitter chocolate flavours. quick dry and bitter finish. Pretty solid though it doesn’t have a very big range of flavours. Purchased at Bello Vino in Ann Arbor in April 2006.
