Commercial Description:
Brewed for Whole Foods. Old Plowshare is a full-flavored Celtic style Stout. Smooth and firm-bodied with the bold flavor notes of dark roasted malts. Because Old Plowshare is organic it remains true to the time-honored Irish tradition of respect for natural ingredients. A great pub classic or the perfect Black and Tan.

Distinct milk chocolate aroma, with milder caramel notes. Dark garnet color, not opaque! Tan clumpy head. Chocolate flavors. Dry. Fairly light even for a dry stout.

Bottled. Pours an almost clear dark brown, with a thin tan head that settles to a ring of foam. Aromas of coffee, molasses and leather with a touch of smoke. Medium and somewhat creamy body with fairly active carbonation. Chocolate and nuts with a roastly malt taste. Bitter dry finish. A bit light for a stout, but seems nicely balanced.

12oz. bottle. Roasty and lightly sweet aroma, plenty of dusty cocoa to be found along with lighter toffee and caramel aspects. Deep, dark brown in color, seemingly filtered, with a lasting, creamy, light tan head. Flavor is roasty and lightly bitter to start, developing some mild hop and chocolate character, and finishing musty and dry with hints of ash, earth and faint coffee. Long into the after, some citric and leafy hop flavors surface. Palate is lightly acidic, somewhat thin and well carbonated, body is medium. A serviceable if somewhat mundane stout.

Pours Black with a creamy tan head. Smell is roasted malt, a bit of chalky cocoa and a touch of sweetness. Taste is roasted malt, a bit of chocolate and subtle sweetness, but fairly dry overall, and has a bit of a fruity berry flavor mixed with chocolate in the finish. Medium body and medium carbonation. Best organic beer I’ve had yet, I’d say, and overall was a solid and enjoyable stout.

Bottled. Pours a deep dark ruby color. Sweet milky aroma. Some sugar in the nose as well. A little malty and maybe some chocolate. Flavor is slightly sweet. A little bit of a coffee bitterness towards the end. Leaves alot of lacing. Good drinkable stout, but nothing special.
