Nice bitter chocolate espresso aroma. Flavor is malty molasses on front, turns quickly to cocoa, then a nice char and coffee finish with some green herbs as well. Great bittersweet roasted malt aftertaste. Medium body is smooth, with some hoppy tongue-tingle and a small nod to the dry side. mgumby10 (1858), Jupiter, Florida, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 10, 2008 Pours a dark brown with a thin, light tan head. Big, sweet, syrupy malt aromas fill the air, along with some caramel, and chocolate cream. Maybe some toffee and gingerbread as well. The flavor has a good dose of coffee and caramel mixed. Pretty sweet with some chocolate syrup notes in there too. Really surprised me how profound the flavors were. Just medium bodied, but had some roasty characters to it as well. A bit sticky and syrupy on the palate, and finishes dry and sweet. I wasnt expecting much to be honest, but very drinkable. Crosling (1856), Loveland, Colorado, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Jan 30, 2006 Different, multi-dimensional dry stout aroma, which gives hints of espresso and coffee, but also a nice variety of fruits and chocolate. Nearly opaque black color, with a thin but lovely colored light tan head. Flavor brings a medley of rich malts into play, which bring several different flavor characteristics. Really rich body as well. Impressive beer. thornecb (1810), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 21, 2009 Pours ebony/mahogany into a shaker. Oatmeal conglomerate head with good retention leaves spotted sheets as it recedes. Sour pit fruits, citrus and dusty chocolate aromas. Sharp and sour upfront changing to espresso and chocolate in the middle to the lasting roasty bitter chocolate finish. Lumpy (1802), Carrollton, Texas, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 4, 2005 Bottle. Nearly opaque body with a thin film of bubbles with great lacing. Nose is light coffee, tree bark, and roastiness. Taste-sharp CO@, roasted wood, char, chocolate powder, coffee, amazingly rich. I was expecting this to be quite thin and watery, but it isn’t. Very full bodied and yummy. Impressive. illinismitty (1800), Nashville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 18, 2007 Bottle from Astor Liquors in Laurel, MD.
Pours deep brown with a thick fizzy beige head. Aroma of coffee, dark roast, and chocolate milk. Medium thin palate. Flavor of mild and smooth roasted coffee beans, with a hint of unsweetened chocolate. Finish has a very soft bitterness with hints of caramel and raisen. Not bad. I liked that it was packed with flavor without being thick and chewy. JCB (1796), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 14, 2007 Bottle given to me by a buddy - thanks David! North Coast certainly do stouts well, as we all know, but this one is probably the least of their offerings. It’s still quite tasty, with a vigorous body, big chocolate malts, and a pleasant roastiness. But nothing particularly memorable. Palidor19 (1792), Brandon, Florida, USA
