The head is a pretty medium tan. Nose is roasty malt, a bit of cocoa, some nuttiness & dark fruits. Flavor is burnt malt, sweet dark caramel, apples (not a bad thing), some chocolaty hops. Very nice creamy body with a lower carbonation level. As it warms a kind of smoky mint comes through in the nose. JCB (1771), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 14, 2007 Bottle given to me by a buddy - thanks David! North Coast certainly do stouts well, as we all know, but this one is probably the least of their offerings. It’s still quite tasty, with a vigorous body, big chocolate malts, and a pleasant roastiness. But nothing particularly memorable. Murphy (1759), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Jun 1, 2006 Pours clear dark brown with no head at all. Aroma is light roasted malts and chocolate, mild. Taste is mostly the same, but accompanied by a strong bitterness due to hops and metallics. Body is way too thin. Drinkable. sneagrams3 (1757), St. Louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 19/20 | Feb 22, 2006 12oz bottle. Dark and opaque. Almost black. Tan thick ring of head. Strong coffee aroma. Sweet caramel and bready chocolate. Great cola-esque sweetness and bitterness. Coffee flavors permeate. Not the fullest of bodies, but its got a great roast and smooth character. The dryness doesn’t come immediately, it is secondary to the crisp, syrupy sweet malts. A perfect example of a lighter bodied dry stout. Full and rich. Light but flavorful. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 5, 2007 Bottle. Clear dark brown body. White rum / caramel aroma with just a touch of the dark stuff at the end. Good flavor - a well blended mix of sweet golden raisin-y sweetness with coffee bean roasty chocolate. Just-velvety mouthfeel - compliments the overall strength well. A fine stout! jake65 (1725), Williston, North Dakota, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 25, 2007 Bottle: Pours a dark brown with a medium tanned head. Aroma is rich with coffee, mocha, and roasted tones. Flavor is roasty with cocoa, light chocolate, and lingering bitters. One of the better organic brews I’ve sampled to date. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 7, 2006 Pours out dark brown, tan head. Smells malty and roasted. Taste is weak yet still pretty good. Tastes very similar to a watered down Old Rasputin. Nice beer though. joet (1709), Fulton, California, USA
