Commercial Description:
Brewed for Whole Foods. Old Plowshare is a full-flavored Celtic style Stout. Smooth and firm-bodied with the bold flavor notes of dark roasted malts. Because Old Plowshare is organic it remains true to the time-honored Irish tradition of respect for natural ingredients. A great pub classic or the perfect Black and Tan.

Pours a three finger light brown head that fades quickly leaving some lace. Totally black color, no highlights. Light carbonation and medium bodied. Coffee nose. Flavor is nearly sweet coffee, with a burnt coffee finish. $2.50 for a 12oz bottle from Beverage Warehouse Winooski, VT.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is roasted malt and sweet caramel. Medium body. Flavor is primarily roasted/smoked malt. Not much hop presence. Not a bad organic stout.

12oz Bottle Pours out a very dark brown topped with a tan head. A nice aroma of roast malt and sweetness. Pretty good, but not as thick as I was looking for.

This came from the Bottle Barn in Santa Rosa, CA not Whole Foods. It poured a very dark brown, almost black, with a fat tan head and very nice lacing rings. Nose of roasted malts, coffee, and some chocolate. Rich and creamy mouthfeel. Flavor is malty with a lot of bitterness from the hops. Very nice.

Bottle shared with Barrios at work. Pours a nice dark brown with chestnut highlights and fair dark tan head. Aroma is sweet light roast with a light cherry note. Tart dry roastiness on the flavor, but still a hint of cherry and maybe other fruits. Medium body with a good bit of carbonation but not in a biting way. Quite decent actually, and I don’t typically care for dry stouts.

Bottle. Pours super dark ruby, near black with a whispy tan head. The nose is rather mild. The hops are actually noticeable in a papery fashion. It seems to have a burned quality and strong charcoal aroma. Hey, that’s not bad at all though. The flavor is pretty decent too. Nice and moderately dry with a tame bittersweet dark chocolate character throughout. Hints of earth and wood are also found. This is a pretty smooth, reasonable stout. No bells or whistles, but sessionably solid.

12oz bottle from Swann Avenue Market (Tampa, FL). POurs a brown to black with thin tan head. Aroma is malty and earthy with notes of chocolate and coffee. Some slight smokiness as well. Flavor is primarily roasted malt and coffee with notes of barnyard, vanilla and toffee. Generally medium to full body with a slightly sweet, slightly bitter finish.
