Commercial Description:
Brewed for Whole Foods. Old Plowshare is a full-flavored Celtic style Stout. Smooth and firm-bodied with the bold flavor notes of dark roasted malts. Because Old Plowshare is organic it remains true to the time-honored Irish tradition of respect for natural ingredients. A great pub classic or the perfect Black and Tan.

12oz bottle acquired in trade with JimboWood (thanks!). Poured a dark brown color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of chocolate, roast, toasted malts, and a light grassiness. Tastes of chocolate, roast, and light coffee. Thinner body.

Bottle thanks to Degarth: Pours a barely transparent dark mahogany brown with a nicely-lacing, frothy off-white head. Lightly sweet, dry roasty aroma has some dark chocolate notes. Body starts with a sweet crystal and roasted maltiness with a drier, chalky mouthfeel becoming more prominent toward the finish. An ok dry stout, but nothing special.

Bottle purchased at Bodega Blue... Clear, dark mahogany ale with a small, creamy, off-white head. Excellent retention. Nutty, creamy milk chocolate nose. Nice roast. Chocolaty, toasty flavor. Balanced well... not sweet, but not burnt nor bitter. Medium-bodied with a skim milk mouthfeel and fizzy carbonation. Lengthy, coffee, lightly bitter finish.

Dark brown with burgundy colors around the sides of the glass, with a tall, large-bubbled light brown head. Soft, creamy milk, cream and smoked toasted chocolate malts, lightly dry and with a bit of a coffee creamer flavor. A little thin up front, more creamy in the middle, with an unmistakable flavor of cookies and cream ice cream. The vanilla note is very evident, in the finish especially. Very good stout.

Interesting. I didn’t pick this up at a Whole Foods and, like the Cru d’Or, it doesn’t name Whole Foods anywhere on the bottle. Oh, welll...
It pours a deep mahogany highlighted in red and has a moderate beige head. The aroma is roasted malt & barley and a bit of coffee and milk chocolate. A bit thin, but tasty. The chocolate becomes more prominent in the flavor and it finishes on a dry, coffee ground note. Not bad.

Dark brown with a hint of mahogany on the edges. Moderate taupe head with some decent lacing. Perhaps a little light in color, but a nice looking brew. Dark caramel aromas, with a light whiff of peanut oil. Some mild chocolate and a hint of licorice. Aromas seem to cross between a mild, a heavy amber, and perhaps a stout. Quite acidic from the start, with black malt and dark coffee. A touch of sweetness in the finish and a rather dry linger, that has a mild orange citric kick. Drinkable, with only a slight aroma fault (as least for me).
