Commercial Description:
Brewed for Whole Foods. Old Plowshare is a full-flavored Celtic style Stout. Smooth and firm-bodied with the bold flavor notes of dark roasted malts. Because Old Plowshare is organic it remains true to the time-honored Irish tradition of respect for natural ingredients. A great pub classic or the perfect Black and Tan.

Deep roasted coffee aroma ith mild lactic. Crimson brown pour with minimal head. Decent roasted flavor, some sweet sugar and butterscotch. Relatively thin. I think I like the Old 38 better.

Deep amber in color, with a ring of light tan head. Cinnamon and brown sugar creep through to the nose, though the dominant aromas are chocolate and burnt coffee. Hoppy bite, then bittering up to a soft finish and a lingering coffee finale. On the whole, however, the beer is thin and a little astringent. I also detect an earthy/club soda quality in the taste that turns me off, and none of the spices come through on the tongue. I agree the palate is a major downer.

Really enjoyed his one. Pours a dark brown/black with a toasted head. Smells wonderful of chocolate, like a chocolate sundae. Taste is also very good, with sweet chocolate, molasses and a bit of anise. Loved it.

bottle poured into a snifter is dark brown bordering on black in color with minimal carbination and slight lacing. aroma of coffee, chocolate, malt, caramel, and light roast. flavor is light in mouth feel for the style, malted but not bitter, and finishes with a coco chocolate flavor. taste is very simple, three ingredients water, malt, and hops. another good organic, very raw tasting flavor, i like the simplicity of this.

Translucent brown with a medium off-white head. The aroma and flavor were not really that interesting...some roasted coffee, but that’s it. Thinnish watery feel...crisp on the tongue with a semi-dry finish. It’s always nice to try a new stout, but this one was not memorable.

Paid $1.49 for a 12-oz single at Whole Foods, Charlottesville. Pours clear dark brown with a large brown head. Aromas of bitter toasted malts, caramel, and slight coffee. Lightish flavor, which for some reason, I like in this beer. Cold coffee, caramel, toffee, and not in the slightest bit heavy. Finishes with a coffee bitterness. Nice.

Poured a stiff and thick deep black with a very thick, foamy, lacing tan head. Chocolate aroma, malty nose. Very solid flavor, roasted malts, nuts, chocolate, grainy. Smooth finish brings the coffee and nutty flavors. I enjoyed this beer and could probably drink alot of it.
