Aroma is of nicely roasted malts, powdered chocolate, and a little cheap coffee. Flavor is about the same as the aroma, with a slight acidic bite and unexpectedly dry. Mouthfeel is hearty, round finish. Overall, good plus. yayforbeer (648), Orange Park, Florida, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 22, 2007 $7.49 for a four pack at Broudy’s. I usually avoid anything labeled “low fat” or “organic”, but a beer from North Coast that I haven’t tried was too enticing to pass up. As expected, North Coast delivered a tasty brew. Aroma was dark roasted malt and molasses. Flavors of coffee, molasses, roasty dark malts, and hop bitterness come through. Very good all around. Bold stout flavors, with a slight sourness like you find in a good Irish stout. Very roasty and pronounced coffee character with an earthy hop presence. Finishes dry. Nice! checkmatei1 (630), Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 23, 2008 Bottle: Poured a dark brown with not much head. The aroma was roasted chocolate malt and coffee. The flavor was of chocolate, coffee, nuts, and roasted malts. Overall, another great beer by North Coast. Surprisingly good for an organic as well. milewide (625), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 28, 2007 Bought at regular bottle store. Nothing to do with Whole Foods. Almost black color. Modest head. Medium body. Lots of roasted malt flavor without some stout’s sweetness. sethdude (611), St. Louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Dec 27, 2005 Pours a pitch black, golden halo, nice strong and lasting head. Aroma is quite chocolately, dark roast with a yeasty note. Flavor is very roasty, some good hop "pepper" at the start, then becoming somewhat tart, giving way to dry roastiness, and a dry coffee finish. yesyouam (611), Fairport, New York, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 17, 2009 Old Plowshare Stout is a very dark reddish brown ale with a frothy, bubbly light brown head that has great retention and leaves lumpy lacing. It has a slightly sweet, roasted, almost charred aroma. It is medium, maybe medium-light bodied. It’s quite smooth with a dry finish. There is a touch of toffee-like sweetness and a nice coffee-like bitterness. It is well balanced, simple and very drinkable. morrdt (609), Jacksonville, Florida, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 7, 2007 Bottle from Total Wine. Pours a murky brown with a little head. Aroma is malty with a bit of roasted chocolate and a touch of coffee. Taste is a tad bitter with a dry finish to it. Not too impressed by this one. Rustyham (598), miami, Florida, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 1/5 | 12/20 | Jun 15, 2009 Nice colored dark beige head, but the bubbles are too big to impress me. Nice strong roasted malty flavor and then, all of a sudden- water. What a tease.
