Commercial Description:
Brewed for Whole Foods. Old Plowshare is a full-flavored Celtic style Stout. Smooth and firm-bodied with the bold flavor notes of dark roasted malts. Because Old Plowshare is organic it remains true to the time-honored Irish tradition of respect for natural ingredients. A great pub classic or the perfect Black and Tan.

Bottle poured a clear dark brown with a small lingering amber head. Aromas of coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malt and a hint of vanilla. Palate was medium bodied and crisp. Flavors of coffee, roasted malt and bitter chocolate with a lingering bitter finish.

Bottle. Pours a very dark brown with an average size lasting frothy tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and light green hops. Flavour of roasted malt and coffee followed by light hops and some lactic notes. Medium bodied, creamy mouthfeel. A simple but well made Stout -- good stuff.

12 oz bottle. Small tan head and jet black color. Aroma is light coffee and black licorice. Taste is three day old espresso with a decent hop bite. Smooth and dry with bittersweet chocolate. Tastes like Old Rasputen Light.

Bottle. Courtesy of hopdog. Deep russet with a tall fluffy tan head. Nose is caramel, light coffee, roasted malts, and sweet choco notes. Taste is roasty and sweet. Lots of caramel, light coffee (with cream and sugar), bit of candy bar, and light malted chocolate candies. Sweet but with a nice roasty bitterness coming through. Body is light-medium with a minimal carbonation feel. Finishes with light bitter coffee, thinned hot chocolate flavors, roasted malts, caramel and sweet chewy malts.

Whole Foods, Sandy Springs, Ga. - 12 oz bottle. Very dark, ruby red - brown cola like pour without the fizziness - not much of a head, what’s there is khaki-colored. Bittersweet chocolatey and earthy aroma. Flavor has a bit of that earthiness as well with some bittersweet chocolate seeping through and a back end of French Roast Coffee. Faint traces of licorice in there as well. Mouthfeel is a tad thin for a stout. All in all, just a tad above average, had much better from North Coast.

12 oz bottle. Clear dark brown color, red around the edges. Foamy tan head. Aroma is roasty and dominated by coffee and chocolate. Promising chocolate notes up front, but falls flat in the middle. There is a touch of roasty bitterness at the end that really hangs around.

Wow, how the hell have I forgotten to rate this? Funny. Dark brown pour. Tan head. Very roasted aroma. Flavor is also roasty with some cocoa notes. Not bad, but not my style either.

Bottle. Pours with a small, tan head over a dark brown body. Aroma of coffee grounds and rich chocolate. Taste is coffee, slightly metallic notes, and quite watery overall. Thinnish mouthfeel, lively bubbles.
