Commercial Description:
Brewed for Whole Foods. Old Plowshare is a full-flavored Celtic style Stout. Smooth and firm-bodied with the bold flavor notes of dark roasted malts. Because Old Plowshare is organic it remains true to the time-honored Irish tradition of respect for natural ingredients. A great pub classic or the perfect Black and Tan.

Old Plowshare Stout is a very dark reddish brown ale with a frothy, bubbly light brown head that has great retention and leaves lumpy lacing. It has a slightly sweet, roasted, almost charred aroma. It is medium, maybe medium-light bodied. It’s quite smooth with a dry finish. There is a touch of toffee-like sweetness and a nice coffee-like bitterness. It is well balanced, simple and very drinkable.

Nice robust smell of roasted malt, chocolate, caramel and molasses. Poured a cola color with a nice foamy tan head that quickly receded to a nice foamy cap. Nice lacing. Flavor is robust roasted malt, milk chocolate, burnt malt, dark chocolate and rich coffee. Body is medium, texture is slightly creamy then slightly sticky, with medium carbonation, a quick dry very light bitter finish. A very nice stout by whole foods. I will definitely buy again. Served in a Pint.

Smells very nice. Looks good. A thick solid dry stout, could be used as a sounding board for the style. Good stuff.

Pour the head into a healthy tan head and stick you nose in it. This dark ruby stout has a nice roasted malt nose with some coffee and toffee along with a faint sweetness of dark fruit. Good flavor for an organic ale. I did not expect anything less from NCBC. All of their beers are on the money and this series is no exception. Finish is dry with slight bitterness.

Poured a stiff and thick deep black with a very thick, foamy, lacing tan head. Chocolate aroma, malty nose. Very solid flavor, roasted malts, nuts, chocolate, grainy. Smooth finish brings the coffee and nutty flavors. I enjoyed this beer and could probably drink alot of it.

12 oz. Nearly opaque with a small but lasting, creamy head. Nice bitter chocolate espresso aroma. Flavor is malty molasses on front, turns quickly to cocoa, then a nice char and coffee finish with some green herbs as well. Great bittersweet roasted malt aftertaste. Medium body is smooth, with some hoppy tongue-tingle and a small nod to the dry side.

Pours dark brown almost black with a thin beige head. The aroma was very pleasant , with hints of: malt, vanilla, maple and brown sugar. The flavor had notes of: malt, chocolate, oak, coffee, and smoke. Very well balanced with a smooth finish.
