Commercial Description:
Brewed for Whole Foods. Old Plowshare is a full-flavored Celtic style Stout. Smooth and firm-bodied with the bold flavor notes of dark roasted malts. Because Old Plowshare is organic it remains true to the time-honored Irish tradition of respect for natural ingredients. A great pub classic or the perfect Black and Tan.

I like this stout. I wonder if this recipe is the same as Old No. 38, but organic. This beer is light, but favorable. There is a nice balance between coffee, chocolate, and spicy hops.

(bottle - 12 oz) Dark brown with red highlights and a nice and puffy tan head. Aroma is very rich and roasty with some nice mocha notes underneath. Roasted chocolate malts dominate the beginning of the taste with a nice roasted and toasted middle and a bittersweet chocolate and coffee finish. A very nice and easy drinking stout.

Bottle. Black body, a bit of brown light shines through at the edge. The head is a pretty medium tan. Nose is roasty malt, a bit of cocoa, some nuttiness & dark fruits. Flavor is burnt malt, sweet dark caramel, apples (not a bad thing), some chocolaty hops. Very nice creamy body with a lower carbonation level. As it warms a kind of smoky mint comes through in the nose.

Bottle. Pours a very dark brown with an average size lasting frothy tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and light green hops. Flavour of roasted malt and coffee followed by light hops and some lactic notes. Medium bodied, creamy mouthfeel. A simple but well made Stout -- good stuff.

Bottle poured a clear dark brown with a small lingering amber head. Aromas of coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malt and a hint of vanilla. Palate was medium bodied and crisp. Flavors of coffee, roasted malt and bitter chocolate with a lingering bitter finish.

Smells like chocolate cereal - cocoa puffs or krispies. Bad label, nigh opaque dark brown black. California squat micro bottle. Dry, very drinkable, dark cocoa, faint coffee, roasty, light nutty sweetness. Fizzy, medium/medium light mouthfeel. Some oxidized, leathery whiffs in the high palate. Slightly acidic, but does well in session. Nothing too complicated, but it has a somewhat complex flavor profile.
