Commercial Description:
Brewed for Whole Foods. Old Plowshare is a full-flavored Celtic style Stout. Smooth and firm-bodied with the bold flavor notes of dark roasted malts. Because Old Plowshare is organic it remains true to the time-honored Irish tradition of respect for natural ingredients. A great pub classic or the perfect Black and Tan.

12 oz bottle. Pours nearly jet black with 2 cm of a 2 cm dense tan head that is slowly diminishing. Aroma of mocha. Initial flavor is slightly sweet with coffee and malt. Flavor ends with a hint of bitter chocolate, long bitter aftertaste. Light to moderate carbonation, tons of lacing, moderate body, limited alcohol presence. Overall, I think this beer probably deserves a better rating because it is pretty decent drinking.

Darkest brown with a big fluffy tan head. Nice retention and decent lacing. Aromas of cocoa powder, graham, brownie mix, iced coffee. Flavor is mainly chocolate malts. Lightly acidic and roasty. Not as sweet as the aroma, but there’s a dusting of cocoa and dark chocolate. Sort of light bodied with sharp carbonation. A very solid stout.

Pours an almost opaque dark brown with a huge head that settles slowly. Aroma is of nicely roasted malts, powdered chocolate, and a little cheap coffee. Flavor is about the same as the aroma, with a slight acidic bite and unexpectedly dry. Mouthfeel is hearty, round finish. Overall, good plus.

Dark amber brown pour into thick foamy tan head that slowly dissipates into sticky lacing that melts down the glass. Aroma of dark roasted malt and black coffee. Initial flavor of dark buttery chocolate malt fading to a slightly bitter, roasted nutty finish.

Murky and deep dark brown. Quickly fading tan head. Curious mouthfeel ... seemed much too light at times and OK in others. Malts were richly flavored, with bold elements of dark chocolate, coffee with cream and a caramel-sweet base. Roasty aromas were really nice, with notes of charred wood, black patent and bitter baker’s chocolate.

Dark color and a faint head. Good body- molst organics I have tried always seem to be thin, but this one is nice. Alcohol is just right as well.

Deep roasted coffee aroma ith mild lactic. Crimson brown pour with minimal head. Decent roasted flavor, some sweet sugar and butterscotch. Relatively thin. I think I like the Old 38 better.
