Commercial Description:
Cask.
Hits the bars & pubs on 1st December so make sure that your local is stocking it. (Christmas stocking it that is.) Christmas Cracker is a wonderful beer full of winter tastes and flavours expertly malted and sympathetically hopped.

Clear medium yellow orange color with a average to large, creamy, good lacing, fully lasting, white to off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, green apple. Flavor is moderate sweet and light to moderate bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20081228]

Hazy light amber color; thin creamy head. Simple aroma. Fresh caramel and toffee flavor, correct bitterness, some sweetness. Easy but pleasant.

Cask at Bankers Draft (JDW), Bedford. Very dark brown with an off white head. Unfortunately I didn’t notice this was being served with a sparkler. Faint sweet berry aroma. Sweet, sugary taste, quite smooth and pleasant, but lacking character and impact. Slight bitterness.

[cask at Monks Retreat, Reading] Reddish amber, slight white head, slight carbonation. Soft mellow fruit aroma and taste. Quite sweet. Very smooth, and pleasant enough, but lacks any real edge and Im not sure what it has to do with Christmas. A little sticky on the palatte.

Handpulled cask at Baker St. Spoons. Gold with a thin white head. Very average bitter with no festive additions whatsoever.

Cask at the Joseph Else, Nottingham. Where do Wickwar get off calling this a Christmas beer? They should take some lessons from Goose Island. I think this thin, bland, pallid beer is an insult to British beer drinkers. I did not finish it and left the pub profoundly depressed about the state of British brewing.

Cask, Pig’s Ear BF 2007. Very fruity. Peaches, soft apples. Ultimately too sweet and one dimensional.

Cask-conditioned at the Knights Templar JDW, Bristol, December 2006. This didn’t strike me as a winter beer, it was more a standard bitter. Competent enough and well balanced in aroma and flavour, but not memorable.
