maeib (3997), Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England Apr 25, 2008 Cask conditioned - gravity dispense - Merchants Inn, Rugby. I just didn’t get this at all. Very dark brown and very sweet for a porter with some winey flavours. Failed on all porter fronts for me. Not that it’s a bad beer just wierd and not what I was looking for.
dj (376), Gloucestershire, England Sep 27, 2008 Bottle, 500ml. A dark colour with almost no head. Aroma is sweet malt, blueberry and hops. Taste has roasted malt, blackcurrant, a hint of coffee, treacle and a good underlying hop flavour. Almost flat carbonation. A really tasty brew, which I can’t wait to try in cask form. FrankJohansen (2807), Sabro, Denmark Sep 18, 2008 Cask at EBF 2008. Black colour with a small beige head. Rich taste of chocolate and licorice. Oily palate. Nekronos (1943), Xalapa, Mexico Sep 12, 2008 A little watery but nice. I liked it’s porter taste. I had it at GBBF 2008. Nice bubbly foam. Rune (1804), Tromsø, Norway Sep 2, 2008 Winter beer of Britain 08. Draught. Dark as pitch in body appearance. A few patches on the top. Smell of plain dark malts. Malt-grainy character with notes of both chocolate and liquorice underpinned by spicy hops. A little bit too sweet, though (tutored tasting with Roger Protz at GBBF, 06.08.2008). Svesse (1806), Hässelby, Sweden Aug 23, 2008 (Cask at GBBF, London, 6 Aug 2008) Black colour with frothy, pale brown head. Malty, roasted nose with wild berries and prunes. Malty, roasted taste with notes of dried fruit, raisins and coffee. Medium bitterness, fairly sweet. Nice, warming porter.
