hayduke (1620), Eureka, California, USA Aug 24, 2009 From a draft pour at the Widmer brewpub in Portland, Oregon, this came a very dark brown with a medium tan head and thick lacing. Nose of roasted malts and chocolate. Very rich and creamy mouthfeel feels like oil on the tongue. The flavor is lightly bitter with lots of chocolate malts and coffee flavors. Bitter finish. Excellent stuff. beerinmarch (2781), Alabama, USA Nov 18, 2008 On tap at the brewery. Very dark brown body, close to black with a soft ruby color at the edges of the glass. Smooth beige head. Soft roastiness up front, bitter chocolate with a strong hop finish for the style. On the higher carbonation side, I prefer some of the softer smoother bodied versions, but overall this was still nice. Angeloregon (2024), Portland, Oregon, USA Oct 6, 2008 On tap at Widmer Gasthaus in Portland, OR--Deep, dark black-brown and roasty with a small beige head. Very thick for a schwartz beer. Very enjoyable. Chocolate and malt notes danced on my tongue and warmed my gut. Very nice. kp (8400), Woodstock, Georgia, USA Sep 1, 2007 Date: 10/12/1996

Crit (2399), New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada Jan 8, 2003 Decent malt nose. Good malt profile throughout gwfrankpsu (231), McKinleyville, California, USA Dec 17, 2001 This is a god beer to have with Widmer’s Meatloaf, my comfort food. Gusler (2655), Tucson, Arizona, USA Mar 28, 2001 A good beer from a great brewery, nice nose, malty with the black patent malts showing tyhrough, some bite, decent beer all round. Oakes (8057), gone rambling, Vietnam Jan 16, 2001 Not bad as a schwarzbier, but if they are trying to pass this off as a porter, no way. Not enough complexity.
