Commercial Description:
Broken Halo IPA is a beer produced in the spirit of traditional IPA products shipped from the UK to India in the late 1800s. The almost excessive amounts of Cascade and Columbus hops used in Broken Halo give it notable citrus and grapefruit aromas and flavors. The beer bitterness measures high but tastes smooth due to the full-bodied, Caramel malt sweetness. The finish is juicy, clean, and short lived. A devilishly bold, heavenly smooth India Pale Ale. malts: PALE, CARAMEL 10L & 20L,carapils hops: ALCHEMY, CASCADE, zeus

I picked it up for the name alone. Pours a copper yellow with a nice hoppy aroma. It has a nice bitter finish. Nothing to set it apart from some other IPAs but nothing going against it either.

Bottle: Copper color with a one finger head that disappeared quickly, nice lacing left on the glass. Smell is citrus hops. Taste is sweet hops. Nice medium body. Smooth. Overall a good beer. Thanks Craig!

12 oz bottle from a variety pack case. A gift from my loving wife on our anniversary: Pale golden color with a small, fading white head. Light grassy and citrus aroma. Fllavor starts with some light caramel sweetness followed by a light citrus bitterness and a dry orange rind finish. Medium body is oily with lively carbonation.

Sampled at the Arizona Craft Brewers Guild 2008 Strong Beer Fest, on February 17, at the Mesa Amphitheatre. 6/26/08: Clear medium golden color pour with a foamy head. Nice aroma of grapefruit peel and pine sap. Very similar flavor. Definayely hoppier than your average six-pack IPA. Not bad at all. Very refreshing on a warm summer night like tonight.

My initial poor rating of this IPA was due to the fact that I rated it at the onset of an acute viral infection that laid me low for 4 days. Pours an orange yellow with a minimal head and almost no lacing. Citrus aroma with some sweet undertones. The hops are subdued at first, making room for a clean bright taste to develop before asserting themselves with a flourish. All this happens within the first 2/3 of a swallow. Not a bad accomplishment. Aftertaste is clean and bitter. I’m glad I gave this a second shot.

Bottle courtesy of bockyhorsey as a bonus on my latest visit to the Valley. This thing kicked some IPA arse while enjoying it later in the week in my hotel room. The pour was golden to light orange in color, pretty clean looking, good head and lacing as it should be with an IPA. The aroma was rich grapefruity citrus, some floral notes. The flavor was citrus grapefruity, somewhat piney-resinous, and also faintly floral. Unfortunately, the only itty bitty knock I have on it was a faint touch of diacetyl in the flavor alone, something that I’m normally very sensitive too in the first place (and don’t like). In this beer, it didn’t turn me off (was very light), but was enough to distract me from rating it super high. Clean that up, and man, my kinda IPA.

Bottle. Poured hazy orange with thin white head. Lekker floral aroma with citrus notes. Hop and grapefruit flavour. Light body,. Small hoppy finish, not what I’d expect from an IPA. This bier began better than it ended, but is still quite drinkable
