Commercial Description:
Broken Halo IPA is a beer produced in the spirit of traditional IPA products shipped from the UK to India in the late 1800s. The almost excessive amounts of Cascade and Columbus hops used in Broken Halo give it notable citrus and grapefruit aromas and flavors. The beer bitterness measures high but tastes smooth due to the full-bodied, Caramel malt sweetness. The finish is juicy, clean, and short lived. A devilishly bold, heavenly smooth India Pale Ale. malts: PALE, CARAMEL 10L & 20L,carapils hops: ALCHEMY, CASCADE, zeus

Draft at Widmer Brothers BC, Portland, OR. Small ivory head that mostly diminished, very nice lacing, no carbonation was observed, transparent, and a golden hue. Nose was hoppy, grapefruit, citrus. Nicely done! Flavor was bitter, hoppy, citrus, grapefruit, and finishes somewhat dry. Mouthfeel was smooth and dry. Medium body. Very quaffable brew and definitely worthy of a try. I would drink this one again even considering that I am not a "hophead" by any means.

12oz bottle. Good pine and floral aromas hit the nose. Copper body with good head. Mild dry ipa but enough sweet citrus sugar jucice in the flavor. Refreshes the palate good beer.

12 oz. bottle - Pours a crystal clear deep golden color with a one finger thick off white head. Very soft carbonation. Light lacing. Aroma is citrus, pine, and light floral hops. Flavor is hops and lightly sweetened malt. Medium body. No lingering astringent aftertaste. A pretty good beer.

draft. Harvest gold with faint head. Hippy aroma that leads to a dry bitter body.

Poured a goden-amber from the 12 ounce bottle. Modest head, good lacing. Aroma is resins, citrus, sweet malt. Flavor is lemon, grapefruit, pine needles, some resins. Pretty well balanced for an IPA. Palate was smooth and fairly full. Overall, this is a little less forward than many IPAs but not a let-down by any means. Could be a session IPA at 6% abv. Recommended.

12oz Bottle. This was given to me by a friend who works for AB. This was in a gift pack of seasonal Widmer beers. I haven’t had too much from widmer that I liked and this was no exception. This had a pretty hoppy bite, but not the fresh, citrus hop flavor I crave. This was kind of a harsh sour like hoppiness. For whatever reason, I think Im just not a fan of Cascade hops. I poured the last 1/3 of this down my drain.

Drank this while sitting in the Portland airport. Widmer hasn’t always impressed me with their beers, but this was a very good IPA. Nice hoppy flavor and good smooth finish. Wish I could get this at home. (OH)

12 oz bottle. Pours a light amber color with a decent head that falls to a thin froth. Nice lace lets you count your sips. Pleasing grapefruit nose. Citrus on the front with a solid malty middle. Nice carbonation with a dry pleasant bitter finish. I like this beer.
