GG (1613), NorCal, California, USA May 29, 2008 A very nice offering from the brewers at Widmer. I now know that if/when I need a decent hop fix, I can turn here and get it. Avaiable in the super-sized grocery stores too, so that’s another plus.
The beer pours out an amber/orange color with a nice creamy two-finger head. The aroma has a nice 1-2 punch of prickly, piney hops and a clean floral note. The beer really has a suprisingly sweet side to it, which I enjoy but some don’t. I thought it really helped balance the medium hop level in the beer to a certain degree. Honestly, I felt there weren’t enough hops for an IPA, but it wasn’t off by much. Perhaps if it were better attenuated the hops might get kicked up a notch or two. In the end, it’s a nice beer and one that I can recommend in the pinch. GreatLibations (1440), Last Supper, Arizona, USA May 28, 2008 BH is a honey colored IPA with a decent head on it. Lacing is minimal and aroma is good and spicy. It’s a full bodied ale with a good citrusy hop crunch and a malty backbone. The finish is bittered with citrus rind flavors. It’s an average IPA. highibus (421), Mill Creek, Washington, USA May 24, 2008 No real aroma some slight aroma. Flavor is okay but just not quite up to par. At least there is some hop predence even though it is a little off. Oh well, it’s Widmer. ditmier (1021), Boise, Idaho, USA May 23, 2008 2008 Bottle - Light floral aroma of hop flowers, taste is a very nice balance, great bitter hop presence without being too strong, slight malt on the back end, one of Widmers better brews IMHO... JohnnyJ (1283), Carlsbad, California, USA May 22, 2008 Pours a clear dark gold with white fizzy head. Floral hops, bitterness, citrus, grapefruit, hints of tropical fruit, and a small amount of caramel malt. Just your average IPA, but still worth a try and tastes pretty good. Sparky27 (1559), Phoenix, Arizona, USA May 16, 2008 Bottle. Pours a slightly hazing dark gold color with 2 finger head. Nose is mild citrus and pine. Palate is mild pine up front with some grapefruit in the finish. Medium mouth feel with ok lacing. Standard IPA – nothing sticks out good or bad. TheSponge (272), Lynnwood, Washington, USA Apr 27, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Pours a dark golden yellow with minimal head. Aroma: Hops & pine. Flavor: Hoppy, slightly sweet, slightly bitter. Lizardking3 (6), Springfield, Oregon, USA does not count Apr 26, 2008 Bites at first a little bit, as a usual IPA would... but finishes extremely clean and leaves the palate hanging with slight fruity feel. The balance between the hops and smooth flavor is undeniable as you can never really have a bad sip of this overall satisfying beer, regardless of the temperature of the beer. There are better IPA’s out there, but you can never go wrong with this beer and being an Oregonian I get it more often than not.
