Commercial Description:
Broken Halo IPA is a beer produced in the spirit of traditional IPA products shipped from the UK to India in the late 1800s. The almost excessive amounts of Cascade and Columbus hops used in Broken Halo give it notable citrus and grapefruit aromas and flavors. The beer bitterness measures high but tastes smooth due to the full-bodied, Caramel malt sweetness. The finish is juicy, clean, and short lived. A devilishly bold, heavenly smooth India Pale Ale. malts: PALE, CARAMEL 10L & 20L,carapils hops: ALCHEMY, CASCADE, zeus

Nice and hoppy, but not much else. There is little detectable malt and the aroma doesn’t impart citrus as much I I hoped it would. It’s a decent beverage, but not one I’d want to seek out to have again.

Bottle. Poured hazy orange with thin white head. Lekker floral aroma with citrus notes. Hop and grapefruit flavour. Light body,. Small hoppy finish, not what I’d expect from an IPA. This bier began better than it ended, but is still quite drinkable

Well, is it an IPA? I suppose. It reminds me of what could be an English version of an IPA. (If I’m off the mark, then... meh to you.) This is a hard beer; hard meaning hard water. It is with its caramel notes, but with some lemon notes, and with some juiciness indeed. I like it. It is alright, but not what I expect for living off the southern coast of California.

Pours a light golden copper color with a decent white froth. Aroma is citrusy with caramel but somewhat muted. Flavor is sweet caramel with some grassy and citrusy hops. Pretty standard west coast style IPA but just not as potent or good. Starts to taste pretty crappy if it warms at all. Astringent bitterness and a dry finish. Average all around.

Bottle: Copper color with a one finger head that disappeared quickly, nice lacing left on the glass. Smell is citrus hops. Taste is sweet hops. Nice medium body. Smooth. Overall a good beer. Thanks Craig!

12oz Bottle. This was given to me by a friend who works for AB. This was in a gift pack of seasonal Widmer beers. I haven’t had too much from widmer that I liked and this was no exception. This had a pretty hoppy bite, but not the fresh, citrus hop flavor I crave. This was kind of a harsh sour like hoppiness. For whatever reason, I think Im just not a fan of Cascade hops. I poured the last 1/3 of this down my drain.

12oz bottle from The Wine Rack in Midland, TX. Pours light amber with white head. Aroma is citrus, hops and caramel malts. Flavor is caramel malts with hops and citrus. Finishes bitter. Not the best IPA but my first taste of hops in weeks.

Actually, I was pleasantly surprised by this Widmer IPA. The cascade hops are evident, but there really is no way I’d call it "excessive." This ranks middle-of-the-road on the IBU scale as far as I can tell, so the fact it is fairly well balanced isn’t too surprising, but the grapefruit and grassiness is there. It’s nothing I’ll go out of my way to find but a great fall back at most bars.
