Commercial Description:
Broken Halo IPA is a beer produced in the spirit of traditional IPA products shipped from the UK to India in the late 1800s. The almost excessive amounts of Cascade and Columbus hops used in Broken Halo give it notable citrus and grapefruit aromas and flavors. The beer bitterness measures high but tastes smooth due to the full-bodied, Caramel malt sweetness. The finish is juicy, clean, and short lived. A devilishly bold, heavenly smooth India Pale Ale. malts: PALE, CARAMEL 10L & 20L,carapils hops: ALCHEMY, CASCADE, zeus

Pours a clear bronze with a thin, nicely-lacing white head. Aroma is lightly caramel malty sweet with some fresh piney, citrusy hops. Body starts mildly sweet with some crisp, lightly bitter grapefruity hop flavor and a touch of grainy malt. Finishes bittersweet and lightly sticky. Nicely balanced and very drinkable IPA. Thanks to wohlfs for the bottle!

Courtesy of douglas88. Pours gold/copper with a white head. Smells of citrus, grass, hay, caramel. Tastes lightly bitter and peppery with lots of earthy character and a citrussy finish. Some resin also present.

Clear golden honey appearance with a decent film of a white head with some sticky lacing. Crisp and peppery on the tongue, spicy and lively, but not really the right IPA for me, lacking juiciness, lacking that dank grassy and juicy character that I really like. Still, not a terrible IPA, but there’s some bland metallic notes that are pretty annoying. Finishes fairly bland and empty. Starts well, doesn’t end well.

Draught at Capone’s Pub in Coeur D’Alene, ID
Golden color, decent head and lacing. The nose is crispy with cascades and centennial like hops with just a bit of hops. Clean and hoppy like the W05 or a lighter version of the Halo. A bit lacking in body and a pronounced hop bouquet nose, but the finish is pretty solid. I’d drink this again.

Draught @ Widmer Brothers Gasthaus, Portland, OR. Pours a clear golden color with a small white head. Has a malty hoppy citrus aroma. Sweetish malty hoppy bitter citrus and grapefruit flavor. Has a slighlty sweetish malty hoppy bitter finish.

Blind rating, bottle. Head is initially small, frothy/fizzy, off-white, mostly diminishing. Body is dark yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), lightly to moderately hoppy (grapefruit). Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Zzzzzz.

Aroma of pine and citrus hop. Decent amber color with a substantial white head that laces a bit. Starts with smooth piney hop. Malt isn’t in it. Very firm mouthfeel. The finish is lightly pine, with some grapefruit popping up. It’s not harsh like some IPAs. Perhaps for that reason it is being underrated.

On tap at Pete’s Lair Tavern in Milwaukie, Oregon. Pours a clear dark golden pale brew with a thin white head thatquickly dissolves to a fine film. Aroma of sour citrus with some orange peel, and light caramel malt. Taste is medium bodied, well carbonated with flavors of roasted caramel malt, some grapefruit zest and some mellon character. (this is different) Finish is slightly sweet with an orange zest aftertaste.
