Commercial Description:
With its unique citrus character, smooth drinkability, and distinctive hop character, Drifter Pale Ale is truly an original. Brewed with generous amounts of Summit hops, a variety known for their intense citrus flavors and aromas, Drifter has a taste unique to the Pale Ale category. True to style, the bittering hops are perceptible enough to give the beer a crisp, clean, quenching finish, yet also soft enough to keep the beer smooth and balanced. 2006 GABF Silver Medal Winner

From a bottle poured amber with a good amount of head. Nice hoppy flavor with a lasting finish.

Draft. Pours a hazy, dark orange amber color. A small head of beige colored foam settles to lilypad-like clumps, with thin sheets of lacing marking the glass. The nose displays a toasty biscuit and caramel malt base, with notes of cereal grain and floral, somewhat citrusy hops. Flavors are the same, well balanced between the caramel-biscuit sweetness and the lightly bitter citrus blossom hop notes. Medium bodied, balanced, and drinkable, it’s a pretty decent brew, but nothing special.

Nice color, copper, very fruity, nice balance. Cream-colored head, fluffy. Surprising!

12 oz. bottle courtesy of a trade with ditmier. Pours a clear amber with a moderate off-white head that started disappearing immediately and was reduced to an uneven film after the first sip. Very pleasant aroma of orange and grapefruit along with some pine. The flavor unfortunately, does not follow the aroma. There is weak malt up front followed by equally weak pine and citrus. Medium bitterness at the finish.

Light amber in color. Damn, that’s some citrus and pine I smell! Wasn’t expecting that. The flavor is a little malty, followed by an explosion of citrus. Better yet, I got this at the grocery store in my one stoplight town. I think I have my new session beer!

Bottle… Pours clear and amber with a small, creamy, white head. Good retention. Earthy, cat piss and pine needle aroma with afterthoughts of peach and grapefruit. Light to medium-bodied with relaxed carbonation. Almost perfectly balanced - leans a touch on the bitter side. Crisp, dry finish.

Draft at Beer Bourbon and BBQ Festival in Richmond VA on 5-30-09. Amber bodied. Aroma is hoppy with toasted malt, citrus fruits, light cocoa and spices. Very odd aroma for a pale ale. Taste is hoppy with more toasted malt, caramel, and spicy and earthy notes. Light toffee as well. Body is creamy due to the carbonation feel but medium overall. Ends with spicy hops, more sweet and toasted malt, and toffee. Different but drinkable.
