Commercial Description:
With its unique citrus character, smooth drinkability, and distinctive hop character, Drifter Pale Ale is truly an original. Brewed with generous amounts of Summit hops, a variety known for their intense citrus flavors and aromas, Drifter has a taste unique to the Pale Ale category. True to style, the bittering hops are perceptible enough to give the beer a crisp, clean, quenching finish, yet also soft enough to keep the beer smooth and balanced. 2006 GABF Silver Medal Winner

On tap at McGregors. Rather nice looking, orange, beautiful lacing. Standard APA, nice balanced hop/malt beer, finish is dry. Grapefruit in nose, fruity palate but very creamy mouthfeel. Leans a tiny bit to the side of IPA.

bottle. nose of creamed peaches and pineapple flavored syrup with dry pine cone aromatic hops. medium body, decent frothiness, moderately coarse texture. bit of a damp and moldy paper/drywall character. hops are syrupy and caramelized. medium bitterness. completely forgettable overall.

[Tap] Pours a hazy amber color with a decent white head and good lacing. Aroma of citrus hops and light malts. The flavor is more subdued than the aroma, and includes some pine. Slightly astringent and average carbonation. A pretty good pale ale, but it didn’t really live up to my expectations given the fragrant aroma.

Bomber bottle. Pours very clear burnt orange color with a very large off white head that stays for ever. Aroma is a bit soapy, could be casacade hops, also get some earthy slight pine hops and some malt hides in background. Flavor is a bit weak with a thin mouthf fell and a slight hop bitterness and flavor Flavor is an odd dish towel like also. Drinkable but not overly enjoyable

While always being a fan of The Widmer Brothers Hefeweizen, I decided to try their Drifter pale ale. I was blown away right after popping the top of the first bottle and getting it’s breezy/cool citris aroma. I was very impressed with its taste as well. I’m a huge fan of grapefruit, So I’m not sure if someone who dislikes grapefruit and/or has kidney stones will enjoy the qualities of this beer. It somewhat reminded me of Dogfish Heads 60 Min IPA, with less hops and a splash of grapefruit. Smooth Sailing! Repeat Consumer!

Local bottle. Clear, orange-yellow colour with a small white head. Aroma is pink grapefruit, lemon, grass and some pepper. Very balanced flavour that is very citrusy but hits a little malt at the finish. Good, refreshing but amybe a little thin.

Tried a sample at Brewfest Tallahassee. Not bad. Definite citrus hops here, and a bitter kick, but still enough malt balance so you’re not all dried out.

Wow this was another unexpected gem from Widmer Brothers. Aroma was very nice. All grassy hops and decently strong. Pour was not very pale a dark amber with a thin white ring for a head. Taste was big and full and mostly all citrus and grassy hops with a burnt roasted malt and burnt caramel backbone. Very good beer and very unique to style.
