| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 10, 2009 Bottle pours a rusty orange body with a small beige head. Subtle aroma has toasted caramel and hints of grapefruit and pine. Taste has a grassy, pine, and citrusy hop bitterness that is well balanced by the toasty and biscuity caramel. Nothing earth shattering here, but spot on for style and pleasantly drinkable. harrisoni (6946), Ashford, Kent, England

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 29, 2009 Sept. 29, 2009; 12 oz. bottle. Stopped at one of the county’s two boutique beer stores on the way home today, and found a case of Widmer Brothers Drifter Pale Ale stickered at a ridiculous price of $15.99 (in an establishment where many 4- and 6-packs are priced over $10). Shocked Casting any suspicions aside -- duly noting that the beer was bottled on April 19, 2009 -- I promptly relieved them of it and tossed it in the back of the pickup.
Looking into my purchase on this fine site, I was pleased to see that it’s rated at a way-better-than-average 83rd percentile overall; in the 88th percentile in its style.
Produced by Widmer Bros. of Portland, Ore., the "Drifter Pale Ale" is uncharacteristically dark for an offering billed as an American Pale Ale. The mild, citrus hops are quite rounded-off in relation to the prominent caramel malts -- forcing this brew to walk a narrow plank between APA and seasonally-appropriate Märzen (Oktoberfest) territory at the point of a rusty-orange dagger. Pretty darn good -- especially for the price! -- but I was hoping for something a bit hoppier. BigBeer45 (710), Michigan, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 22, 2009 Pours a dark copper with a little haze and some red-brown hues, light effervescence, made a one to two finger of-white head that lowers to a cover, aromas of orange and peach fruit, citrus hops, toasted malt and some malt sweetness, flavors of toasted malt, bread, some bread and malt sweetness in flavor, nice hops at the finish but not enough to give a dry ending, there was some malt flavor and sweetness trailing after the finish, nice mouth feel, there was a good amount of toasted malt in the Pale Ale, a very nice drink.
