hotstuff (3175), Indiana, USA Feb 1, 2008 Draft at Widmer Brothers BC, Portland, OR. Small ivory head that was mostly lasting, decent amount of lacing, no visible carbonation, transparent, and an orange hue. Nose was malty, hoppy, sweet, and caramel notes. Flavor was sweet, malty and some caramel. Smooth mouthfeel and medium body. Quaffable, but not true to style IMO. BückDich (4777), McCall, Idaho, USA Nov 19, 2007 Tap @ Gausthaus as "Dark Wheat": Pours a dark ebony color, no head or lacing. The nose is lightly malty with a hint of caramel and light wheat notes. The flavor holds some softer minerally roast notes and a decent body and mouthfeel. Overall it’s nutty and caramelly, but just not really anything over your basic brown ale, not enough wheat. thedm (3833), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Aug 4, 2007 This draft brew from the brewery poured a small sized head of foamy finely sized bubbles that were mostly diminishing and left behind a transparent softly carbonated copper brown colored body. The mild aroma was malty sweet and mild hop. The crisp mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish. The mild flavor contained notes of nutty and brown malt. A good brew but did not conform to style. Skyview (3977), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Jul 17, 2007 On draught at the Widmer brewpub in downtown Portland. Sampled during ABA Beer Tour 07. Pours a clear brownish amber brew with a thin off-white head that quickly dissolves to a fine film. Aroma is complex with scents of llight caramel, roasted pecans, with flowery hops. Taste is lightly carbonated, medium body with more barley malt flavor than wheat. Could not pick up any banana esters or yeast flavors. Finish is smooth, slightly sweet with a nutty and malt flavor aftertaste.
