This one pours very deep coppery, approaching the ruby end of the spectrum. The head is small and rapidly dissipating. The aroma is caramel malty, with some honey notes, and a slight red aley, cabernet and fruity element. The palate is medium and not extremely complex. As it warms, this one gets a little tart and uni-dimensional, but it isn’t what I would call bad by any means. austinpowers (2828), New York, New York, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 1/5 | 1/10 | 1/5 | 20/20 | Jan 7, 2006 A solid, enjoyable Oktoberfest consumed at Andy’s Corner Bar in Bogota, NJ. Lots of malty flavor with a touch of bitterness pretty much as you’d expect for the style. Very flavorful and the amber color was pretty. Can’t complain, however the label could use some improvements - it looks a bit amateurish. pivo (2537), Germany
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 8, 2005 Hey, where did this come from? Nice stuff. The first thing you notice is that this is a dark larger, like a bock or Märzen: ruddy copper with a low clingy head. Nose of malasses, honey - thick and broad. Caramelly malt with again honey tones. Light spicy end with a lingering bitter. Could have been more hops. Medium body. A little too sweet for me, bot overall decent. Volgon (2489), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 8, 2005 What a nice unexpected suprise: Nice copper color, nearly no head, soft carbonation. Rhasberry and intense honey nose. Honey and grain taste with a slight nice hoppy kick. Smokey in between and all of a sudden it finishes again with a long but light hoppy aftertaste. He looks quite stodgy - more likely to be sipping whiskey and smoking cigars. He apparently started brewing this in 1879. Clear orange/amber, medium head, thin ring of lacing. Smooth and easy drinking, like a fruity cookie, very little hop, thin sweet sticky finish. This is nice. (bottle from Circle Liquors, Pennington, NJ)
