This 8.2% RIS had a 10-07-07 expiry date on it, does that mean its 9 months past, or is it a new way of keeping dates and there is lots of time to go. Sourness and mustiness reflecting this past due or intrinsic? ciuspan (94), Hillerød, Denmark

Very complex nose of roasted malts, coffee and liquorice, very nice. Disappointing flavour though, initially sweet which gradually becomes astringently bitter, but where’s the complexity? Alcohol obviously present in flavour. I could smell this for hours, but tasting it is far less interesting. Disappointing. kp (8500), Woodstock, Georgia, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 24, 2008 Appearance: Pours a dark brown, near black body with a tiny, short-lived tan head.
Smell: Scents of dark grains, unsweetened chocolate, and a grape-like fruitiness all wrapped up in a soil-covered earthiness.
Taste: Dark, and I do mean dark, maltiness with a taste of chocolate and a medium sugary sweetness. Touch of ground spices. A grape-ish fruit flavor found in purple-colored candy, though please don’t take that as anything bad. Very earthy throughout with a medium bitterness. Roasty, earthen finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-full body. Mild carbonation. Creamy mouthfeel.
Drinkability: Quite good! A breeze to finish when they’re this tasty.
