Commercial Description:
Strong mead fermented in bourbon barrels. Sweet honey flavors with the smoky bourbon flavor.

Editor's Note: Exists at both 16% and 18%, and ranges in color from golden to amber (the 2006 is reportedly lighter colored due to a different variety of honey and shorter aging time).

Sampled at a tasting at Binny’s Glen Ellyn. My beer guy’s been talking this one up for a while and I figured he just wanted me to drop the cash on the bottle. But man. Nice golden pour with darker amber embellishments. Very nice nose: sweet honey and bourbon, a bit of flowers and perfume. Flavor is sweet but the bourbon comes through. Very nice, woody, lots of fruit. Not sure this is something I could drink a lot of or often, as its too sweet for me, but still a nice drink.

At first we thought this a gimmick mead, but not so. It’s for real and very good. Kentucky barrel aged 12 months. Naked desire 2007 lot 56071 $31.50 from Chicago with a plastic cap/cork. This bottled mead from a bottle shop poured no head at all. The body was transparent, light yellow colored left an oily lacing in my glass. The nice aroma was sweet and laced with honey. The mouth feel was smooth at the start and at the finish with a strong vinous honey aftertaste. The strong flavor contained notes of vinous honey. Delicious and one I would certainly buy again.

Bottle, 16% abv. Pours a pale gold body with no head. Nice woody honey flavors. Hints of apple and caramel. Moderate etoh warming with a hint of sulfur. Good but not my favorite.

Paul’s tasting. 14% version. Poured clear yellow-gold with no head. Sweet sugary aroma with honey, alcohol and acetone. Sweet smooth honey flavor. Sugary. Medium bodied.

350 ml Nau-t-gal bottle. In addition, the label reads 14% abv. Pours a mostly clear gold with no head. This is a still mead. Not as dark or as rich looking as I was expecting. There are lots of alcohol vapors along with a very pleasant aroma of apples, vanilla, and honey. The flavor is weak vanilla along with honey, followed by strong alcohol at the end. The finish is quite short, and the flavor almost seems to evaporate. Thin, almost watery body. I enjoy mead very much, and I must admit I was very much looking forward to this one, and was disappointed.

Nau-t-guy bottle. 2006 bottle. Much lighter than the picture. Pours a golden color with no head and massive legs like glue. body is clear and brilliant. Nose is honey and coconut and some toasted wood. Taste is coconut, vanilla, honeyed port, and sugar. There is something here that reminds me of sake for some reason. This is really delicious. I love mead and I love bourbon. Syrupy mouthfeel and medium to long finish. Great mead despite the weird experience and trouble getting the product.

Thanks to thedm for bringing this bottle, but I wish he had the female version. Pale straw yellow color and still out of the naked man torso bottle. Strong honey sweetness in the nose with very noticable alcohol. You can taste the barrel in this one, along with the fresh honey and floral sweetness. Very solid mead.

From a bottle, not the fancy one. Disappointing. Extremely boozy, vodka aroma, a touch sweet, complex but harsh. Taste is big sweet up front, corny, cornbread, urine [mmm]. Way too sweet without a good foundation. Booziness is too much. This isnt even close to the top Meads out there.
