Commercial Description:
Strong mead fermented in bourbon barrels. Sweet honey flavors with the smoky bourbon flavor.

Editor's Note: Exists at both 16% and 18%, and ranges in color from golden to amber (the 2006 is reportedly lighter colored due to a different variety of honey and shorter aging time).

Beautiful aroma of honey, vanilla, floral smells. Tastes of honey, vanilla, oak . Some alcohol presence but not too strong.

Bottle at Paul’s Gathering: (Thanks Jimmack!) Has an odd aroma- medicinal hints, but not overpowering. A touch of alcohol long with mildly sweet vanilla and toasted oak notes. Lots of bourbon character comes through. Slick palate with a smooth sweetness in the flavor. The honeyish sweet body is balanced by a rich oak presence- woody and lightly earthy bourbon. A touch of vanilla is there but it’s slim and smooth. Has an almost white grape-like suggestion. Residual smooth oak residuals are in the finish. Well hidden alcohol. Interesting oak-infused Mead.

Thanks to jimmack for sharing this at Paul’s place last night - pours a thick light gold - it has a gentle aroma for something so strong - a lot of herbal character and raw wildflower honey, along with some oak and vanilla character - the flavor has apparent vanilla, bourbon and oak, but it isn’t overpowering, and actually works well with the flowery aspect and honey sweetness - despite how sweet it is, it never becomes cloying - strong alcohol without being boozy - an all around great mead.

Thanks again to Jimmack for sharing this again. Pours a nice slightly viscous yellowish honey gold with good legs in the glass. Aroma is honey, vanilla, flowery, and light irish whiskey and some bourbon oakiness. Flavor is very sweet, with a good sweet honey, and cane sugar syrup, oaky, vanilla, light bourbon, alcohol is not noticed too much ( this batch says 14%). Long sweet and somewhat sticky finish. One of the few meads that I like.

loved the bottle. pours a bourbon brown with no head. bitter , medicinal, eye watering, slightly bourbony. although the flavor is slightly sweet, it certainly is enjoyable, and the sweetness certainly does not get in the way of the alcohol. there is a brandy kind of finish to the sweet flavor. this is like a great after dinner drink, as long as you only have a little bit (remember the alcohol).

Oh sweet desire it truly is. That bottle with those ass cheeks sticking out invites my tongue to the orgy that will soon take place. The color is yellow like the bright sunshine beaming down from a cloud filled sky. The bees buzz about attempting to sting me with 16% vigor but I feel no pain, instead I sniff the sweet sweet honey of this beverage. Now to let my tongue loose on the playground. The sweet nectar reminds me of licking a bee hive without the obvious dangers involved. Just a hint of gingerman cookies and lovely cinnamon arouse my taste buds. As I drink this ode to the honey I feel the warming effects of the alcohol. It’s like sitting by the fire on a brutally cold day in the great white north. If you want to know what the buzz is about, it BEE about drinking a mead in the company of a good book and your pussy cat. A treat like none other!
