Commercial Description:
Not suited for timid or reserved beer drinkers, Wild Blue’s defining taste characteristic is its kick of natural blueberry flavor. The Blue Dawg Brewing team carefully selected a blend of hops and barley malt to ensure they complemented and balanced Wild Blue’s dominant blueberry notes, resulting in a robust and aromatic beer with a refreshing, palate-cleansing finish. Wild Blue is brewed with a blend of German hops from the Hallertau region in Bavaria and classic Aroma hops from the Willamette Valley in the Pacific Northwest. A combination of two- and six-row barley malt also was chosen specifically for this recipe. Beer lovers will appreciate this specialty fruit-infused lager’s striking burgundy color, ripe blueberry aroma and its ability to stand up to the strongest of foods.

Good beer. Intense blueberry flavor. Awesome dark purple color. Very sweet. Not something you could drink a lot of consecutively.

Consumed 9-10-09....Much different in the glass than bottle...the glass reveals too many faults that the bottle held well---Its sweet...the blueberries are drowned in sugar--very one dimensional--not beer like at all--more like a wine cooler or malternative--a sugar coating left on my teeth--drinks easy but finishes sour

Tasted at Fruit Beer night at Sud’s Club. Good for a fruit beer. Also good mixed with a vanilla vodka.

Pours the color of a blue raspberry blow pop with a fine pinkish head. The aroma is cherry cough syrup with sweet n’ low. Flavor is blue raspberry candy, bubble gum, and cough syrup. A bit fizzy. Little beer to speak of in here.

12 oz bottle. Aromas of, wait for this--big surprise coming--blueberries! Smells like a Budweiser with blueberries added. Pours a beautiful burgandy with a medium head, nice lacing. Looks like a Lindeman’s lambic. Tastes of, hold on, see if you can guess...blueberries! Definite beer flavor. It’s not just a wine cooler like some would have you believe. Tastes a little undercarbonated, watery. Gets worse towards the bottom--turns even more watery. For an 8% alcohol beer, there is no strong alcohol presence. This stuff could get you seriously hammered with no warning in a hurry.

Blueberry flavor was a little over the top. Kinda syrupy and sweet. My wife really liked it.

I was given a bottle of this by a friend who knew that I was into beer. She says to me...."do you like blueberry beer" as if it’s its own sub-genre or something of the sort. I don’t have too much of an issue with fruit beers, so I told her to hand it over. Cracked open the bottle, poured some out - Purple with a pink head to boot.... Aroma, sweet, sticky, fruit - but fakey...It was awkward. Taste, well, it was overbearingly candy fruity berry. I mean, I could taste no beer at all...it had nothing to it that would make me think I was drinking a beer. I was very concerned about this product...Not something I will have ever again by choice.

Despite the negative reviews this beer is just what it advertizes. If you are not fond of sweet fruity beers heed this warning and stay away. Though not a fan of fruit beers myself, this is a beer I recommend to those disinterested in developing a taste for more esoteric brews. The beer itself has a deep royal purple color when poured. The aroma is cloyingly sweet, and as one would imagine very heady with blueberries. The flavor is thick and fruity and belies the brew’s eight percent ABV. Though I myself found the sweetness and strong nose to be overpowering, it is to be relished by some, and thus garners it a mediocre review instead of a negative one. If you need to get someone who enjoys "girly" drinks drunk, this is the beer with which to do it.
