MrDick (277), San Francisco, California, USA Oct 21, 2003 (gabf'03) The Hopzilla sports a palate destroying 100 IBU. Ok - it's not as destroying as a Ruination, but it has a lot of hops. Lemon citrus with some fennel. Obviously trying to go for the big hop taste but lacking in some qualities. Volgon (2487), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Oct 16, 2003 Updated: Jan 11, 2004GABF 2003: Cloudy yellow with a creamy head. Spicy pine hops in the nose. Creamy mouthfeel, starts and ends very bitter. I kept going back to this beer during the festival. Zach Diesel (907), Portland, Oregon, USA Oct 16, 2003 classic NW hop aroma, golden orange, chewy piney and fruity hops, great body and intense long lasting bitter finish JorisPPattyn (5155), Antwerpen, Belgium Oct 2, 2003 (draught) Dull orange, very slim white head. Nose are hops, but also bit of paint varnish. taste yields hops, orangey; light-coloured malts are there but the emphasis is heavy on the hops, laced with rinds of orangezest. There is a suspicion of sugar underneath - as the juice is promessed under the orangepeel. Medium to full bodied, quite bit sticky - sugar keeps hinting even if it isn't tasted. I'm not really impressed. I expected a hopmonster OK, but this stickiness is not really wanted. jazz88 (2235), San Francisco, California, USA Feb 18, 2003 Tap @ the Bistro's Double IPA Festival. Dark golden brown with an off-white head. Dark vinous fruits with a smash of hops. mwsf (360), San Francisco, California, USA Feb 9, 2003 Cloudy copper color. Malty aroma. Slightly sweet. Very nice balance. Full body. More of a Barley Wine than a Double IPA. Nice beer.
