Subtle aroma has hints of sugar, chocolate, oak, nuts and stale malts. Plenty of butterscotch in this overly sweet, thin-bodied beer. Also some sour, stale malts and a little chocolate and caramel. Not much of a fan of this one. Way too thin. jde123 (715), Washington, Washington DC, USA

Pours a transparent dark brown, with a small dissatisfied head. Aroma of wood and sweet sugary items. Flavor is nicely rounded, without being pretentious. Overall a great beer! | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 26, 2005 Nice malty aroma - nutty, brown toast, a little chocolate and caramel. Clear orange-brown color, minimal head. Flavor is a nice balance of toasty, caramelly malt and fruity, herbal hops. Kind of sweet, nothing over the top, but a very pleasant blend of clean flavors. Medium body, medium-low carbonation. A pretty nice session ale, about as much as I expect out of a brown ale. scraff (1955), Baltimore, Maryland, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 17, 2005 Nice dark brownish ruby color, tan creamy head. Nose held soft notes of nuttiness, chocolate, sweet toffee, with just a touch of coffee. Flavor was similar, yet notes of roastiness come into play too. A light hop bitterness shows up on the back side to round this out Light to medium bodied, medium carbonation, nutty finish. Nothing fantastic, but you could easily drink a few in a one sitting...

Poured a small ivory head that quickly dissipated, carbonated, sparse lacing, and a reddish brown hue. Malty, sweet, caramel aroma and mimicked in the flavor. Smooth, thin mouthfeel. Light-medium body. argo0 (6994), Washington DC, USA
