| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 5, 2003 Crystal clear, mahogany ale with a small, creamy, well-tanned head.
Heavy butterscotch and toffee in the aroma. Vanilla and chocolate as well. Malt bliss!
Very well-balanced and nutty with small, thin notes of chocolate, coffee and tangy hops in the flavor. A bit woodsy.
Medium-bodied with a silky mouthfeel and lively carbonation.
Damn nice brew! DaSilky1 (2029), San Diego, California, USA

| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 1/5 | 14/20 | Jun 23, 2003 Not much of a palate on this brown ale, personally I'm a big fan of brown ale's so that's the reason for the 14/20 on the overall impression, but not well done at all. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jun 16, 2003 Deep malt aroma - dry w/coffee & nutty hints. Tea tannins and some light hops. Coppery brown-red clear w/light tan head. Little lacing. Med hi carb w/watery body. Light sweet start with light tartness. Grainy taste - like Triscuits. Finish is sweet malty nuttiness. Light dry nutty after. Decent but nothing impressive. aaronh (201), McMurray, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 13, 2003 Caramel colored body topped by a tan head. NIce nutty, caramel aroma. Much of the same in the taste, with a touch of hops on the finish. Lingering nutty aftertaste. Good mouthfeel is well rounded. Drinkability is good. Could be a good session brew. As usual, nothing offensive from FredBrew, but nothing truly noteworthy as well. Good beer, great price. Could be a workhorse brew in the beer fridge, but I don't find it around SW PA very often. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jun 3, 2003 Malty and sweet aroma. Color is a dark mahogany with a foamy, tan, quickly-fading head. The flavor has subtle hints of amber, caramel, and chocolate evenly balanced with a pleasing sweetness and mild hop characteristic. This beer goes down smoothly. Enjoyable, but not at the top of my list.
